That's awesome, Ravi! Starting the day with a beach cleanup is a great way to take direct action for the environment. 🌍 Glass bottles, often mistaken for mere waste, are actually a valuable resource in the circular economy. ♻️ Recycling glass helps reduce landfill waste, conserves raw materials like sand, and significantly lowers CO2 emissions during manufacturing. According to the Glass Packaging Institute and environmental agencies, recycling one ton (2,000 pounds) of glass can save approximately: ♻ 1,330 pounds of sand ♻ 433 pounds of soda ash ♻ 433 pounds of limestone ♻ 151 pounds of feldspar This totals to about 2,347 pounds of natural resources conserved for every ton of glass recycled. Additionally, using recycled glass (cullet) in the manufacturing process reduces energy consumption significantly. For every 10% increase in cullet usage, energy costs can decrease by 2-3%. This not only conserves resources but also lowers greenhouse gas emissions associated with glass production. Ravi, your efforts not only help protect marine life but also promote a more sustainable future. 💚 Keep up the good work, and let’s continue spreading awareness! 🌊 #CircularEconomy #Sustainability
🌅 How I Started My Tuesday Morning 🌅 It’s not what you might think. I kicked off my day with a beach cleanup. 🌊🏖️ During the cleanup, I came across various types of waste, including numerous glass bottles. These bottles shouldn’t be seen as mere waste but as valuable resources that can be reintegrated into the circular economy. ♻️ Glass recycling is crucial because it helps reduce landfill waste, conserves natural resources, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. Let’s all do our part to keep our beaches clean and promote sustainability! 🌍💚

The theme for our Sustainability Week this June was "Get out into nature", and we ran a competition for our employees to share photos of nature local to them, at our sites around the world. The photos below are just a small selection of the amazing photos taken during the month, and show the diversity of nature across our sites worldwide. Once the competition closes at the end of the month, our employees will vote for their favourites, with prizes for the top three photos. At Essentra, we recognise it's important to protect the local habitats our company operates in. To reduce our impact as a business on nature, we have a target to be zero waste to landfill across our operations, and to reduce our waste intensity by 50%, by 2030. In 2023, 94% of solid waste was diverted from landfill across our operations, an increase of 18% compared to 2022, and our waste intensity has reduced by 28% against our 2019 baseline. We also encourage our employees to use the volunteer day they get each year to protect local habitats, and our employees have taken part in a wide range of activities from coral reef planting in Thailand, to forest restoration in Spain. A very exciting use- or recycling (upcycling ? ) of disposed fishing nets litter. One of the main sources of marine plastic pollution. This should be replicated in scale..
At Kerecis sustainability is the prize, quite literally! Our Aurora Awards Trophies – presented to grand prize winners at the Northern Lights Wound Workshop in Reykjavik – symbolize both achievement in the operating room and our commitment to sustainability! ♻️🌱 The top piece is created from recycled fishing nets and rope collected on shores, helping to clean up our oceans and protect marine life. With a look almost identical to marble, the base is crafted from recycled single-use packaging, upcycling waste into something beautiful and meaningful. We urge you to choose an eco-friendly solution whenever possible, minimize waste, and help protect our planet 🌍

Diving into sustainability 🌊 In line with this year’s B Corp Month theme, we’re always ‘moving forward’ in terms of trying to reduce our water use. One of the ways we do this is the Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant we have at our Tweed Valley Maltings, which gives us the ability to treat used process water - that would ordinarily be discharged - and reuse it. This reduces the demand on the area’s water resources and boreholes we abstract from, whilst also reducing the wastewater we discharge. Explore more about how we are ‘moving forward’ 👉 https://buff.ly/3CbNvKd

For more than a decade, our focus primarily rested on fostering awareness and garnering support for our mission to "protect the planet", however as we move forward, it's evident that active, tangible steps are required, not only at an individual level but also from "Corporates". A recent visit to a shoreline location I frequented seven years ago brought stark evidence of the escalating environmental crisis. The disappearance of a familiar restaurant, engulfed by encroaching waters due to rising sea levels and global ice melting, serves as a clear reminder of the urgent need for actions. To effect meaningful change, it's imperative that companies encourage their employees to engage in awareness activities regularly (not only during the week of Environment Day or Ocean Day), potentially on a monthly basis or even more frequently. By integrating environmental consciousness into our organizational DNA, we can foster a culture of sustainability and drive meaningful progress towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Do we do enough? Some of us may and some of us may not. Let us not restrict our effort only for awareness or actions for a day (which has been the case at times). The ask now is all of us need to stay invested in this topic at all levels, in the "Board Rooms", in the "floor", in the "eco system" & as individuals. (Let us all work hard to extend all actions across Scope 1, 2 & 3 in a practical manner from corporates standpoint). Furthermore, policy makers must explore incentives/policies/mandates to recognize all such initiatives aimed at mitigating environmental impacts. By earmarking resources for projects dedicated to environmental conservation, we not only fulfil our corporate responsibility but also contribute tangibly to the preservation of our planet in an active manner. In essence, the transition from awareness-raising to concrete action is a paramount, action not for a day in a year, but every day, every hour, every minute & every second. By championing sustainable practices and instilling a commitment to environmental stewardship within our organizations, we can collectively work towards a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come. Let us do our part as individuals, organizations to handover a better world to the next gen. I would also like to thank individuals, communities & corporates who has taken active involvement in this journey every day to make an impact. @ Freight Systems we are 100% paper free in handling our esteemed customers shipments for more than a decade. Now our latest addition @ Jatauli an 500K sq ft warehouse complex, powered by solar energy & many more initiatives to support the environment every day. #Initiatives #Practice #ActiveInvolvement #Corporates #Sustainability #Mitigation #Vested #SaveTheWorld #GHG #PowerofCorporates #Alternatives #Mandate #FreightSystems #EnvironmentFirst
