Day 5 of sharing PR agencies on our Nice List: Fox Agency 🌍 We asked Global Head of PR Lottie West what inspired them to sign the Clean Creatives pledge: “Signing the Clean Creatives pledge underpins our commitment to doing good for people and planet. We are a proud B Corp, and sustainability is at the heart of our values, with more than 10% of our team having undergone carbon literacy training, and logging 700 volunteer hours in the last six months alone. Over this time frame we have also seen our carbon footprint reduced by at least 5%, and we have planted over 700 trees.” --- Looking for more agencies with 0 fossil fuel clients? We made a list. 📝 Download our 2025 Nice List for a guide to all the UK PR & Comms that have signed the pledge ⬇️ https://2ly.link/21eti

Communicating about your own green transition journey isn’t easy. Perceptions shift constantly, and the tactics and strategies you once used are no longer appropriate. Audiences don’t want to hear about goals and plans anymore. They want to know what you’re doing now and how you’re doing it. That’s more than just a business challenge – it’s a communications challenge – and scrutiny is fierce. #ClimateWeekNYC

In recognizing Earth Day, it is noteworthy to emphasize sustainability through public relations practices. Tony DeFazio, founder and principal of Sustainable PR, has noticed brands and their products conform to greenwashing. Greenwashing is when professionals guide the public to believe they are working toward helping the environment, but it is really all for appearances. Other agencies like FINN Partners have implemented principles of sustainability communications to ensure that their brand, clients and output are not only genuine - but sustainable. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in, when it comes to sustainability we’re all trying to move in the same direction. That’s why if you want to drive real impact at scale you’ve got to lean into pre-competitive collaboration. We are all going to compete like hell in the marketplace but there are some things where we can set aside our competitive fire and do what’s right for our industry and the communities we work in. I touched on this in my conversation on the Marketing for What Matters for Peaceful Media, where we talked about the power of approaching issues as a consortium of companies as opposed to having individual conversations with individual stakeholders. As we make work toward these massively, massively, ambitious commitments and targets, especially towards Scope 3 emissions, if you want to really scratch the surface you have to engage with competitors… pre-competitively. Share resources, pool expertise, and create a unified impact when you approach those really complex issues. Thanks to Peaceful Media for having me, I really enjoyed our discussion.

🧠 Are client-serving climate communicators serving their clients or climate? 🧠 This new SEMAFOR article does a good job of teasing out the nuances of climate communications within businesses and agencies, noting that while comms people have historically uncritically served their clients, things are starting to shift: 👉 “compared to a few years ago, there are not only more comms consultants working in climate, but they’re getting more specialized and sophisticated on the issues, and more willing to push back against initiatives that aren’t scientifically up to snuff” Of course, there are still plenty of comms people who simply execute the wishes of their client, regardless of whether it is transparent greenwashing 😐 And then there is a middle ground of comms people highlighted by the final missing clause of the above quote “— in the interest of protecting their and their clients’ reputations, if nothing else” 🤷♀️ But I know there is another more intentional group out there, and I’m not just talking about those who choose not to work for polluting clients (and of course there is very good reason why you should not). I’m talking about those who work with more grey-area clients and who support them in good faith, WHILE ALSO SERVING LIFE ON EARTH AS THEIR PRIORITY STAKEHOLDER. This is an incredibly challenging task, but necessary and noble 👏 👏 My sense is there are numerous grey-area clients who actively embrace this last group of comms people, perhaps even subconsciously and reluctantly. On some level, they know that such comms people are going to make life difficult for them by being a double agent for Earth, but they’re seeking support for doing the right thing in their own incredibly challenging task 💚 🌍 https://lnkd.in/ed8BXeJt
