Thank you BDmagAU. Bring on the North Australian Concert Hall. We are ready. …Similarly, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM), which was born in Townsville three decades ago, continues to be a key economic driver in the region every year. The total spending associated with the AFCM in Queensland amounted to $9.32 million in 2023 and saw a return of $3.28 million in the state. Notably, 80% of this economic impact was felt in the Townsville region. Yet, arts organisations like AFCM are also facing challenges with financial constraints and the need for adequate infrastructure, which Executive Director Ricardo Peach says is vital to sustaining their growth, particularly amidst the current cost-of-living crisis. “Organisations like ours undergo cycles,” says Ricardo. “We receive a set amount of government funding that isn’t indexed. As inflationary pressures persist, our costs rise, so arts industries need local busineses and the broader community to support us now more than ever. “AFCM attracts many visitors not just from across Australia but also internationally. Infrastructure is essential for us and other local creative industries to ensure we can have a bigger piece of the pie and bring artistic and cultural events all year round, which, of course, would have a flow-on effect for the economy.” In the 2023/24 Townsville City Council budget, $45.7 million was assigned to community support programs, libraries, visual and performing arts, galleries, and events. Bolstering this, the Queensland Government allocated $50 million for a new concert hall, adding to the $100 million already granted from the Federal Government in 2021. This pending construction, while promising, highlights ongoing debates about resource allocation and the lack of performance venues for both amateur and professional organisations. However, it is a good indicator that the city is being recognised Queensland-wide for the artistic talent that is being cultivated in the region… Townsville City Council Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts Arts Queensland Townsville Enterprise (TEL)

I have such a wide taste in music. Like seriously, if we've never talked music, we should. This live performance by Black Sabbath from 1970 is so amazing. Thanks to Greg Dohler for bringing it up in conversation over lunch today. Greg's a great photographer and friend, and it was great to commiserate about this awesome performance. What does this have to do with business? Black Sabbath was panned by the critics of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Rolling Stone said they were "Like Cream! But worse." But watch this film, and you'll see that from a performance point of view, they're amazing. They were operating on a different level and totally misunderstood by the prevailing opinions. Isn't that our dream as business owners? To press beyond, to be on the cutting edge of our industry? To innovate and grow? Final thought: if my dream as a business owner had a soundtrack, I'd definitely want Bill Ward playing the drums. Good gravy!

I stumbled upon a gem- a video from a sales conference in New Orleans. One memorable night, despite the rain, we created a magical experience as a live jazz band led a second-line procession to Preservation Hall. 💡 Entertainment is essential to your sales conference. It unites the event, creates shared memories, strengthens connections, and leaves a lasting impression. Here’s how to make your entertainment unforgettable: 1. Match the Entertainment to the Location Your conference’s destination is part of the story you’re telling. In New Orleans, it made sense to bring in local jazz bands. For a Nashville event? Think country music or honky-tonk vibes. 2. Focus on Energy Entertainment is about movement—both physical and emotional. A great band gets people out of their chairs, but it also energizes conversations. Whether it’s a band, comedian, or cultural performance, ensure it resonates with your audience and encourages participation. 3. Consider Timing Entertainment at a sales conference isn’t just about “fun.” It serves a strategic purpose. A high-energy band on the first night might break the ice and build momentum. 4. Rain or Shine, Keep the Spirit Alive The weather tried to rain on our parade in New Orleans—literally. But here’s the thing: the unexpected can turn into the unforgettable when you lean into it. Attendees loved how we embraced the moment, umbrellas and all. So, the next time you’re planning a sales conference, don’t just book a band—curate an experience. 🌟 🎤 What’s the best entertainment moment you’ve experienced at a conference or event? Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear your stories! 👇 #EventPlanning #SalesConferences #EventEntertainment #NewOrleansVibes #EventProfs

JLo cancelled her tour, as you probably know, because tickets weren't selling well at all. I want to use this as a great illustration of pricing and the power that it has to determine the success of a live event. This tour was not priced correctly. It was priced on the assumption or perhaps wish that JLo is a very hot property on the live market. The list of "very hot" acts is "very short." It's possible JLo and her team had a touch of Taylor-envy. If she can do a billion dollar tour, why can't I? So they went for a high price structure in large venues, mostly arenas. If this had been theatres or amphitheaters, with capacities more like 5000, perhaps it would have worked. Or if the prices had been lower. Or a combination of both. I don't know enough about her audience and popularity to know if there's a winning combination of price and venue. There usually IS one. I do know enough about marketing live events to have known that THIS combination of price, promotion and venue would not work. Everybody, even big stars, need help getting out of their own heads about what they "should" be selling and at what price. https://lnkd.in/gfTApZRn
