JLR Invests £500 Million in Halewood for #ElectricVehicleProduction JLR has committed £500 million to transform its Halewood facility into its first all-electric #production site. This investment supports JLR’s "Reimagine" strategy, which aims to electrify all its brands by 2030 and achieve #carbonnetzero by 2039. So far, £250 million has been spent, with over one million hours of #construction completed in the past year. The facility has expanded by 32,364 square meters, enabling the production of medium-sized electric luxury SUVs on JLR’s new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. Halewood has been equipped with #advancedtechnology, including new EV assembly lines, 750 autonomous robots, ADAS calibration rigs, and cloud-based digital plant management systems. This upgrade is designed to facilitate the production of internal combustion, #hybrid, and #electricvehicles before the site becomes fully electric. Key upgrades include a new body shop capable of producing 500 vehicle bodies per day, an extended 6 km final #productionline for #batteryinstallation, and 40 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to assist workers with high-voltage battery fitment. More than 1,600 employees have received High Voltage Training (HVT) to prepare for #EVproduction, with further training planned. Sustainability is also a major focus, with JLR planning to install 18,000 solar panels at the site, generating 10% of its energy needs. Through #renewableenergy, fuel switching, and energy efficiency projects, JLR aims to remove 40,000 tonnes of CO2 from Halewood’s #carbonfootprint. JLR is also reusing £16 million worth of equipment from its Castle Bromwich plant to enhance Halewood’s capabilities. With test builds of EMA body shells already complete, JLR is now optimizing production processes, preparing for the official launch of full-scale #EVmanufacturing at Halewood in the near future.
