🌍 I will on behalf of the entire Plant A Decade Initiative- PADI team, appreciate the great impacts and efforts made by the many youth leaders on the continent. It's often disturbing that Africa is stereotyped with enormous negative narratives, but a few young actors are striving to challenge the status quo and change the narrative. On another exciting Plant a Decade Initiative, we took the conversation from West AFrica to Southern Africa, from Nigeria to Zimbabwean Climate Actor, Christabel Clotilda Mhiribidi She expressed her efforts in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). 🌱 Join us as we address some challenges peculiar to the African terrain.  Let’s continue to address the unique challenges faced on the African terrain and drive the positive change our continent deserves. Africa needs to build up, not phase out. Our development pathway must reflect our unique challenges and opportunities. When we speak about "Youth Impact and Involvement in Climate Change Matters: Shaping a Sustainable Future in our communities," we're not interested in fancy rhetoric. We're focused on: ✅ Practical solutions for rural communities ✅ Real-world implementation strategies ✅ Direct support for those most affected by climate challenges The Council is done with theoretical frameworks that don't translate to ground realities. #COP29: African Leaders Demand Action on #ClimateFinance During #AfricaDay #COP29Azerbaijan, a call was made to: ✅ Scale up climate finance to meet Africa’s $277B annual needs for adaptation & green growth, ✅ Fulfill the $100B annual pledge by developed countries, ✅ Increase accessibility to climate funds for African nations. “Africa contributes less than 4% of global emissions but suffers disproportionately. We must move from billions to trillions to address climate action,” said Kevin Kariuki, Vice President for Power, Energy, Climate Change and Green Growth, African Development Bank. The African Development Bank has boosted its climate finance from 9% in 2016 to 45% in 2023, showcasing its commitment to green growth. AfDB Launches Climate Action Window to Boost Resilience in Africa  At #COP29 in Azerbaijan, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) unveiled the #ClimateActionWindow (CAW) Technical Assistance Facility, aimed at tackling climate challenges in 37 low-income African nations.  Key Details:   ✅ Funding Pool: With an initial $56 million, CAW focuses on adaptation (75%), mitigation (15%), and technical assistance (10%) projects, supporting efforts aligned with the Paris Agreement, #NationallyDeterminedContributions (NDCs), and #NationalAdaptationPlans (NAPs).  ✅Grant Opportunities: Governments, NGOs, UN agencies, and regional organizations can apply for grants ranging from $260,000 to $1.3 million until February 2025.  ✅Global Partnerships: Collaborations with Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) enhance its impact.  -The initiative has already identified 80 projects worth $800 million, with 41 funded.
