We are delighted to announce that the FoodCloud Growers’ Project has received €165,000 from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine under the Rural Innovation and Development Fund. This funding will help us expand our efforts to reduce food waste and support communities across Ireland. The project will redistribute over 150 tonnes of surplus produce from growers to more than 180 community and volunteer organisations via our hubs in Dublin, Galway, and Cork. This initiative addresses farm-level food waste and provides support. Minister Charlie McConalogue highlighted Ireland's commitment to tackling food waste through national policies and strategies like Food Vision 2030 and the Food Waste Prevention Road Map. He stated, “Food waste reduction initiatives will further enhance the work previously funded to identify, target and address what is a rapidly growing issue not just here in Ireland but globally.” #FoodWasteReduction #Sustainability #CommunitySupport #FoodCloud #AgriFoodSector #RuralInnovation #Ireland

Many takeaways from Dr. Fowler and Dr. Hawtin's #livewiththelaureates talk with World Food Prize Foundation yesterday: 🌱 Seeds, biodiversity are artifacts of the shared history of humankind. 💚 Women are the original domesticators of most plant varieties. 🕊 Efforts to preserve biodiversity require international cooperation. 🌄 Preserving plant genetic resources is not just about saving seeds, its saving possibilities and the solutions needed for the future. #FeedtheWorld #Biodiversity
A new event is starting right now! Live with the Laureates: The Power of Biodiversity in Feed the World will explore the work of our 2024 Laureates! Learn more from Executive Board Member at Global Crop Diversity Trust, Geoffrey Hawtin; and Special Envoy for Global Food Security at the U.S. Department of State, Cary Fowler. #FoodPrize24

📹 Movie Night at Nexio Projects: "The Biggest Little Farm" 🐷 Last night’s movie night at Nexio Projects was truly inspiring as we gathered to watch The Biggest Little Farm. This heartfelt documentary took us on an incredible journey of two dreamers who turned a barren plot of land into a thriving ecosystem, full of challenges and triumphs. Here are three key learnings we took away: 1️⃣ Nature Works Best in Harmony: The film beautifully illustrates how biodiversity is the cornerstone of a sustainable ecosystem. From pest control to soil regeneration, nature has its own solutions when different species coexist and support one another. 2️⃣ Resilience Pays Off: Building something sustainable and meaningful takes time, patience, and persistence. The struggles faced by the farmers remind us that success is not a straight line but a series of challenges that lead to growth and innovation. 3️⃣ Every Action Creates Ripple Effects: Small, thoughtful changes—whether in farming or daily life—can lead to profound positive impacts on the environment and communities. It was a perfect evening of learning, reflection, and bonding as we continue to explore ways to make a difference in our own work and lives. 🌍✨ What were your favorite moments or takeaways? Let us know! 👇

What melts up there, matters down here. We’re so excited to celebrate the launch of an incredible piece of work from icebreaker and Protect Our Winters. DOWNSTREAM explores the impact of glacier loss on our planet and our downstream communities globally, spanning three catchments across Europe, the USA and New Zealand. One of those regions is our local Waitaki River, and we teamed up with POW to produce this section of the documentary. We travelled the Waitaki catchment and met with ZQRX growers David and Lisa Anderson at Bog Roy Station and Professor David Norton, exploring how regenerative agriculture can serve a crucial role in protecting our planet, our ecosystems, and the future we all share. Well done to the teams at icebreaker and Protect Our Winters on this impactful piece of work, driving meaningful action for a better future. DOWNSTREAM. Getting everyone together for a photo was no easy feat (some participants didn’t quite make it into the shot), but earlier this month, the Community Capacity Creators Program wrapped up, marking the end of a five-month journey focused on responding to and preparing for drought and climate challenges. Supported by FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) and the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund, the program explored leadership fundamentals, systems thinking, and innovation with guidance from Chris Mirams and Dr. Gary Saliba. Extending across the region, it featured site visits and conversations with local leaders, showcasing real-world examples of addressing complex challenges. A standout was the study tour to Holbrook and Wagga Wagga. Participants gained insights from farmer Phillip Locke, who balances high production with environmental stewardship, and Alison Southwell, who shared the adaptive, community-driven work of Holbrook Landcare Network. At the Southern NSW Innovation Hub, Dale Stringer highlighted how collaboration and knowledge sharing can strengthen resilience across farming systems and communities. Congratulations to all our graduates for their commitment to increasing their own capacity in pursuit of building stronger, more connected communities.

While we are in the time of the 3 COPs of 2024, it is worth watching this movie. Agroecology today is not a simple idea of dreamers, it is a reality that is changing the world by regenerating our soils, thanks to farmers who are the one doing the job in the field. Support the vision of Sustainable Harvest International and "4 per 1000" Initiative and watch "Roots of renewal". Please share this post with your network, because a large number of persons on Earth has to watch this movie. 4p1000 Initiative Sustainable Harvest International
Happy World Food Day! We are celebrating with a special treat: the launch of a new documentary created in partnership with Myriad and WaterBear Network that explores the interconnectedness of food, the environment, and climate. Roots of Renewal looks at the importance of agroecology through the experiences of our partnering farmers Doña Isabel Montoya, Gerson Dominguez, and Maria Rodríguez. You made this transformational work possible, and we hope it brings you hope and an even deeper commitment to supporting the growth of our program. Watch the film: https://lnkd.in/eSqR9tnh

🌳 👀 This year at Zoological Society of London (ZSL) we celebrated 10 years of our ZSL SPOTT project which aims to shine a light on corporate commitments to forests and biodiversity. 🎁 Here's a few early Christmas presents for you from a very active year... 🧰 New Report tools for tackling deforestation finance. Our report "Forest IQ – A Gateway to TNFD Adoption" was launched this year. Discover how Forest IQ supports financial institutions in adopting the LEAP approach of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). This report explores the platform's role in enabling deforestation-free portfolios, highlights satellite-based data verification, and features case studies from Schroders, Robeco, and others. Who’s it for? Ideal for financial institutions and soft-commodity companies seeking to align with TNFD’s framework and address nature-related risks.

In today's excellent Plenary Session from Francesc Xavier Medina Luque, several food for thoughts emerged about origins of food, its authenticity and geographical indication. It raised an important question: does place really matter when it comes to food? Given that places and territories are often social and political constructs, defining what constitutes original food for a specific geographical area becomes really complex. But I am more curious to understand if authentic food is a reflection of culture and territory, or is it more about adapting practices to local resources? Can our definition of authentic food shift with changing biodiversity? These questions challenge our understanding of food identity as either culturally defined or one dictated by the evolving environments and natural resources over time. #ICFS24 #FoodStudies
