I read something remarkable today. Lacework will be purchased by Wiz for a price that is over 90% less than its prior valuation. Over 90%. How did this happen? I'll posit it is because we look around and see others doing it - and we say that's good enough for me - I'm in. Yes I know there are other factors including abundant and cheap liquidity...but that wouldn't really help the intent of this post...so bear with me. So along that vein, one of the things I do appreciate about our Cap Table is the geographic diversity. Mercury and Integr8d Capital are from Houston. Harbert Management Corporation is from Richmond, Va; Piper Sandler is from Minneapolis, MN. Of course we have both coasts represented with Lytical Ventures and Silver Lake. Finally, we have HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds out of Germany. It's not so much the geography but the diversity of thought it represents. It's my observation that epochs of excellence or ingenuity have always been preceded by an influx of people or ideas from differing backgrounds into the region. We should embrace the idea of listening to folks that have ideas that are dissimilar to our own. Graylog's investor geographic dispersion does represent a check and balance on how we perceive the tech world we are in (and I think that's kind of cool and in fact healthy for us). In that regard - have a look at this opening below - come work in a vibrant and diverse Houston. Alternatively, I'm over-indexing on all of this, and what Aziz Gilani is really trying to tell me is he's tired of talking to me so he needs some help.

Best tip to break into VC 👇 Find funds in the 3rd year of their current fund or are raising a new one and network with them. Most VCs hire when they launch a new fund or just before. By keeping an eye on fund timelines, you can learn about job openings in venture capital before they're publicly announced.

I don't want to fib or pretend we are something else. We are actively looking for the next high growth #proptech or #contech company to align with their national or international growth. Don't worry about what we'll get all though I know what you'll get: - Access to market leading talent actively and passively looking - Building a world class talent attraction and retention culture. - Advice on proven growth strategies - We have observed and noted what has worked (and what hasn't) in the industry; Pre-covid, During and the following bubble of VC funding that followed. Chucking money at problems isn't the answer believe it or not... - Introductions to leading real estate buyers and consultants I genuinely believe we are approaching v2 of growth in this space... We have had our Myspace moment where they failed to capitalise on the opportunity and we are approaching the Facebook, Insta, Twitter exponential growth phase. Landlords, Asset managers and Investors are refining their strategy on how and what to buy. Have you got the market leading team to capitalise?

Question of the Week: What do you do if conflict resolution is disrupting team dynamics in your Venture Capital firm? Response: This question applies to all firms, not just venture capital. I don't know what the "ideal" way is to deal with conflicts, but I do know that the "worst" way to resolve them is to avoid them. Conflict resolution begins with acknowledging the conflict, discussing it with the parties involved, and finding a solution (or middle ground). Venture capital firms have the additional challenge that team sizes are usually very small and relationships among team members can be highly personal. I also think there can be a negative compounding effect when teams are 100% virtual leaving few opportunities to discuss conflicts without the helpful nuances of human nature. Developing internal policies to resolve conflicts is a great way to ensure they're addressed rapidly and systematically.
