This week, I met with Kandi Shejavali about our Cameras For Girls programs and their effectiveness when it comes to evaluation. I was happy to know that we were doing many things the right way, but also the realization that we could make our evaluation metrics more robust, with a few changes, suggested by Kandi. It can feel hard to be optimistic in this day and age. But I remain a dreamer. I dream of a world in which… …every kid and teen receives the positive influence and support they need to thrive(𝒾); …our beautiful oceans are free of plastic(𝒾𝒾); …cultural heritage sites are restored and protected(𝒾𝒾𝒾); …wheelchair users have maximal freedom of movement(𝒾𝓋); …the resource gap to conserve and regenerate biodiversity is closed(𝓋); …women’s voices are unleased; …global citizenship is cultivated(𝓋𝒾); …population data are inclusive(𝓋𝒾𝒾); …all forms of discrimination are eliminated; …human trafficking survivors are supported(𝓋𝒾𝒾𝒾), and human trafficking is eliminated…. Changemakers who recognize the value of generating robust evidence of their program’s results and of leveraging that evidence to support strategic objectives such as improving program effectiveness and efficiency (in the context of a larger system), complying with funder requirements, strengthening advocacy by communicating credibly about program performance and impact, attracting new funders and partners, and more. Thanks to these passionate social impact leaders and their teams, the outcomes I dream of are actual works in progress. (So maybe my dreams are not so pie-in-the-sky after all! Here are a few notable remarks shared by Carmen Correa, Chief Executive Officer, Pro Mujer, during yesterday's Digital Skills & Leadership Plenary. "We’ve learned that adapting digital products and services to the specific context of the communities we work with is essential. At the same time, it’s crucial to train the women we serve on how to use these tools. For indigenous and rural communities, this means not only customizing the platforms but also empowering women within the community to train others. Without considering the local context, you may have the tools but either reach only a few users or miss the target audience altogether." NetHope is advancing sustained digital transformation across the sector by going beyond basic digital literacy to accelerate digital understanding, capabilities and leadership at the strategic and intermediate levels our Members— and their communities—need to thrive. Through the years, we’ve witnessed both the potential and pitfalls of technology. By collaborating with leading NGOs and tech partners, we’ve developed the strategic framework addressing critical digital needs: skills, inclusion, protractions, innovation, and resilience. In response to this framework, we created the NetHope Digital Leadership Institute (NDLI), an online learning platform dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations to thrive in today's rapidly evolving digital landscape: https://lnkd.in/dTpDtbgJ This 12-week course delivered by the NetHope Digital Leadership Institute, offers senior leaders a chance to work individually and collaboratively to identify real solutions they’re facing in their organizations and work towards sustainable solutions. Find out more and apply today! https://lnkd.in/dTpDtbgJ With 259 speakers sharing their insights, strategies, and collective impact, let’s come together under the #techforgood banner and create something extraordinary! Meet our new community-elected Advisory Council Member, Sujatha Sebastian! Story behind her name: Most people in my father's family have a first name that starts with S. When my parents named me, my father incorrectly thought that "Sujatha" was the name of a flower in Hindi. However, in my 20s, I met another Sujatha, who taught me that according to Buddhist history, “Sujatha” was the name of the woman who gave Buddha a bowl of rice porridge, helping him to end his six-year journey of asceticism. Where she calls home: San Francisco area, Northern California, USA. However, I am a New Yorker at heart. All that she has conquered: As the Sr. Director of Leadership Programs at Justice Funders, I currently collaborate with a diverse community of funders, movement groups, and nonprofit organizations to help advance a Just Transition. In addition, I have worked in the nonprofit sector for 20 years across a variety of focus areas including social entrepreneurship, economic development, nonprofit leadership, and network development. I have both launched and worked in start-ups, collaborated with a number of organizations (both internationally and in the United States), and I have served as a board member. In addition, I have been lucky enough to coach, advise, and consult with a number of amazing nonprofit leaders. I believe that the sector holds immense potential. I know firsthand how deeply rewarding and challenging it can be to work in this space—particularly as a woman of color. What she loves about OC: I stumbled across the Opportunity Collaboration community for the first time in 2011. 12 Opportunity Collaborations later, this community continues to be one of the most inspirational and dearest to me professionally and personally. I am constantly amazed by the heart, talent, dedication, vision, and generosity of this community, and am energized by this community’s (and the organization's) beautiful evolution. #ocimpact #globalleaders #unconference #socent #nonprofitleaders #advisorycouncil
