'Most employees say that opportunities to work remotely and have control over their schedules are top company benefits, second only to healthcare. Workplace flexibility even ranks above tried-and-true benefits such as parental leave and childcare. As workplace flexibility transforms from a nice-to-have for some employees to a crucial benefit for most... 83 percent of employees cite the ability to work more efficiently and productively as a primary benefit of working remotely.' Recommendations for fine tuning flexible working models: *Establish clear expectations and norms around working flexibly. *Measure the impact of new initiatives to support flexibility and adjust them as needed. *Put safeguards in place to ensure a level playing field across work arrangements. #marginalflexibility #FutureOfWork #WorkplaceFlexibility

Parents, how does your organization support you during the Back to School chaos? In my former life as an academic, I studied leaders' impact on their employees' work-life balance and consistently learned that flexibility is key. See below for some recent insights from our readers in our Vantage Point Newsletter, by Vantage Leadership Consulting.
Do you feel supported at work during the chaos of back-to-school season? We recently asked our newsletter subscribers to share the most significant changes their workplace could make to better support them at this time of year. The results are in: - 80% urge companies to re-evaluate their childcare and parental leave policies and ensure they meet the evolving needs of working parents. - 60% say that a more lenient remote work policy is preferable all year round but a necessity at this time of year. - 40% advocate for a shift towards a results-oriented team compact, focusing on measurable outcomes instead of hours clocked. Other priorities included: training managers on supporting employees with family responsibilities; implementing wellness programs with counselling services & stress management workshops; improving collaboration tools for efficient cross-functional work. These results challenge organizations to better support working parents, fostering flexible and family-friendly workplaces. How has your organization been adapting? [Remote working & Parenting] The pandemic has reshaped how we view work arrangements. The key takeaway – if work can be done efficiently, where it happens becomes less significant. Embracing flexible work arrangements can bring more benefits than risks, provided there is discipline. The recent adjustments to the tripartite guidelines are a step in the right direction but is at best a nudge. One common concern driving the shift back to physical workspaces is the uncertainty around employees' productivity. Remote working is merely a good excuse for poor management; there is lack of clear goals and checklists for employees. The problem does not lie with the geographical location. The true beneficiaries of flexible work arrangements are young parents. Juggling work and childcare can be challenging, especially with the increasing demands on caregivers. Working from home allows for better management of unexpected situations, such as childcare needs and emergencies, ultimately benefiting both employees and their families. This is how we "take advantage" of working remotely: 🤒Childcare only works when our children are in the pink of health. Otherwise, childcare leave wouldn't cut it since it can't match up to how potent kids' viruses are and how long they can take to recover. I'm just referring to the common cold - I haven't even considered the mandatory MC from HFMD. 🥣 You can speed up your routine when you are running late, but not your child. Eating could even be a chore, a pain. Sometimes remote working takes away that stress and rush to work - the traveling time saved allows us to better deal with parenting and more quickly get down to work. 👨🏻🍼To be present and lend an extra pair of hands. It takes a village (sometimes two) to raise a child and a high level of patience and tolerance. 💪🏼 By fostering understanding and supportive work environments, employers can empower employees to excel both at work and in their roles as caregivers. Working from home should not be viewed as an opportunity to slack off but as a means to support employees in achieving a healthy work-life balance. If anything, you may be easily replaced at your workplace but you are your child's only parent(s). #FlexibleWork #Parenting #WorkLifeBalance #RemoteWorkBenefits

School's Out, but Work Isn't! Flexible Work Options for Working Parents ☀️ Summer brings sunshine, vacations, and...a juggling act for working parents! With kids out of school, childcare arrangements can become a challenge. But fear not, small businesses! Here at I Heart HR, we believe happy employees lead to a thriving business, and that includes supporting parents during the summer months. Flexible Work Arrangements to the Rescue! Traditional work schedules may not always mesh with summer realities. Here are some flexible work options you can explore to accommodate working parents and keep your team productive: ✅ Flexible Start & End Times: Allow employees with children to adjust their start and end times to better align with childcare schedules. This could mean starting earlier and leaving earlier, or coming in later and staying later. ✅ Compressed Workweeks: Consider offering compressed workweeks, where employees work their full hours over a fewer number of days. This gives parents an extra day off during the week to manage childcare or enjoy summer activities with their families. ✅ Work-From-Home Opportunities: For certain roles, explore the possibility of allowing employees to work from home on designated days. This can be a game-changer for parents who need to be available for their children during the day. Benefits for Everyone: By offering flexible work arrangements, you're not just helping working parents; you're also creating a more positive and productive work environment for everyone. Here's how: 📈 Increased Employee Satisfaction: Flexible work arrangements show employees you value their work-life balance, leading to higher morale and loyalty. 📈 Reduced Absenteeism: When employees have childcare options, they're less likely to call in sick or require last-minute schedule changes. 📈 Improved Productivity: A happy and well-rested team is a productive team! Flexible work arrangements can lead to increased focus and efficiency. Ready to Explore Flexible Work Options? I Heart HR can help! 🩷 We offer a variety of services to small businesses, including developing flexible work policies and creating a culture that supports working parents. #SummerHR #SmallBusinessHR #WorkLifeBalance #FlexibleWork #WorkingParents #EmployeeEngagement #HRtips
