Moving fast is the key to successful digital transformation. At least, that's the prevailing consensus we've been hearing about for years now. But what if that's completely wrong? In my experience, if we talk about transforming an existing business, it's not about speed at all. It's about time-to-value. And there's a crucial difference that most companies miss. ❌ Don't rush to implement out-of-the-box solutions, only to spend the next two years trying to make standardized processes fit your unique business needs. Leading digital transformations at CUBE Systems, I've guided 20+ companies through this journey, and here's what I consistently see: 1. Companies focused on time-to-market often sacrifice time-to-value. While initial investment is lower with out-of-the-box solutions, they're locked into standardized processes. This can work if you're just seeking quick market feedback - but it's costly if you need lasting transformation. 2. The "quick" option limits your future: your improvements depend on the manufacturer's roadmap, not your business needs. Your security must follow their standards, not your requirements. And your customer experience stays basic while competitors create unique solutions. 3. The companies seeing real success are those who understand when each approach makes sense: out-of-the-box for simple testing, but custom development for core functionality where unlimited integration capabilities and competitive advantage really matter. They plan carefully, validate with pilots, and then move decisively into full implementation.
