In the wake of Volt Typhoon and as federal departments and agencies, along side the private sector, try to grasp the scope and intent of Salt Typhoon—it is increasingly important we understand the attack surface and threats to the nation’s critical infrastructure. The Department of Defense’s depends on civilian services such as electricity, water, and telecommunications, is essential to the ability to mobilize and sustain combat power in the event of a conflict. Critical Infrastructure = National Security A few thoughts on mitigation / way ahead: ***Technologies such as Zscaler’s zero trust network architecture, inherent network segmentation / micro segmentation, and Airgap OT/IoT solution are key to mitigating the risk. ***Although space has not been officially designated a critical infrastructure sector—it is without a doubt “critical” to the operation of several other sectors including finance, telecommunications, transportation, and energy. We are lacking in space cybersecurity awareness. Enter Rebel Space Technologies SEER and Stargazer platforms to generate both space obserability and cybersecurity. ***We need to ensure the ability to obtain secure remote access to Operational Technology (OT) in order to update and maintain key systems. XONA provides secure remote access to the most important critical infrastructure sectors. Continue to deploy it alongside visibility and ZTNA solutions. Timothy Haugh leads Cyber Command and the National Security Agency in a dual-hat role. According to him, the ability to adapt and build resiliency is key to building cybersecurity. At AFCEA TechNet Cyber, Haugh broke down how threats are evolving, his plans for combatting them and how cybersecurity impacts national security.
