We are thrilled to make our debut on social media!  Allow us to introduce ourselves: Hydrosensing is a Synergy Project funded by the European Research Council, dedicated to transforming our understanding of how plants sense and respond to water. 🌱💧 Our project unites the expertise of 4 teams across 4 countries: - Professor Eilon Shani – A molecular geneticist conducting research at Tel Aviv University.  - Professor Christine Ziegler – A biophysicist and head of the Department of Biophysics at the University of Regensburg - Information Science.  - Professor Thorsten Hamann – Specializing in plant cell wall biology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) .  - Professor Malcolm Bennett – A plant biologist based at the University of Nottingham. In this presentation, she will showcase how LED light spectrum can be modified for plant growth and case studies describing how plants grown without Sunlight change in response to various lighting treatments across the spectrum. Register now: https://lnkd.in/gVtbdb8V Dr. Elsebeth Kolmos is a senior scientist at the Center for Lighting Enabled Systems & Applications (LESA) Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. She joined the LESA team in 2019, where she is in charge of plant research related to horticultural lighting, including LEDs. She brings experience from basic research on the molecular genetics of the circadian clock in plants and plant abiotic stress responses from her academic training and work in the plant biotechnology industry. She earned a PhD in genetics from the University of Cologne in Germany and performed her postdoctoral studies with Dr. Steve Kay at the University of Southern California. Cornell University is the home of the GLASE consortium. Congratulations to Dr Tiisetso E Lephoto, Lecturer and Principal Researcher: School of Molecular and Cell Biology, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand and winner of the TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Emerging Researcher sponsored by South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS). She received the award for her investigation of biological control agents (natural enemies for pests) which can help solve identified challenges, and the identification of new insect-killing microscopic worms called entomopathogenic nematodes, which have the potential to infect and kill problematic soil-dwelling insects in farms within 24-48 hours upon invasion. In his doctoral thesis MSc Mehmet Kiliç explored how plants and cyanobacteria respond to light-related stresses. The findings enhance our understanding of how photosynthetic organisms survive in challenging environments. By identifying key genes that help plants tolerate challenging conditions, we can develop crops that are more resilient to environmental challenges and address the food security. The harvesting of marine organisms for scientific research and analysis can have an impact on the environment, which is a challenge to sustainability that EUREMAP will address. Our project will implement open science practices to ensure all data complies with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles. From sequencing the first tree genome to follow-on discoveries for better #Bioenergy crops: Gerald Tuskan describes a career spent advancing plant genomics 🌱🧬 Tuskan, director of the Center for Bioenergy Innovation and a Corporate Fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, presented his remarks during a lecture on November 19 after DOE leadership honored him as a 2024 U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science Distinguished Scientist Fellow.
