Nearly 50 percent of US employers will spent more money in 2024 on health & well being programs not knowing what effects these benefits have, study shows. One remarkable outcome is that returning to work combined with group lead activity (local volunteering) does have increased inpact on mental well being. So before being accused of ‘well being washing’ in order to attract new employees first do know what your employees really value regarding their benefits and secondly measure the effect on health and well being and adjust accordingly in case of red flags.

Workplace benefits are benefits. They’re not designed for the “thanks”. You're not meant to expect flowers in return. They’re designed with thanks to your team. … but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t beaming with happiness and pride when our re-introduced monthly Life Leave policy came back into place, and our team’s OOOs literally acknowledge the generosity in their auto-responses. Not [at all] requested. Gratefully received, nonetheless. TDP’s EA, Danielle Prince says in her OOO, “how lucky am I” and then brings it home with what she chose to do with her Life Leave, i.e flying in to Sydney to meet her newborn cousin for the first time. Workplace benefits are benefits. They’re not designed for the “thanks”. You're not meant to expect flowers in return. They’re designed with thanks to your team. … but we’re learning - as an entire team lately - that grateful souls are bluddy-good-souls to have within your business: necessary, even. It puts the gratitude back into a benefit. It makes you wanna strive harder to keep creating great benefits. It makes the hard work feel *really* worth it. Let’s keep the gratitude chain goin’, yea? What’s the BEST thing your workplace does for you? Got an incredible colleague you need to thank? Got an incredible Manager you need to thank? Comment below 👇

This fall has been action-packed for the team at Higher Ground 🌵 How do we balance it all? It's our organization's commitment to prioritizing time to rest and recharge. Here’s what that means in practice: 🧡 Talking openly about empathy and compassion fatigue. It’s a real thing, especially for professionals who navigate vicarious trauma! In a line of work that prioritizes giving and others, we need to be intentional staying balanced. 📈 Leading by example to prioritize wellness at the executive level and circulating that vision throughout the organization. It’s about knowing how wellness extends across the organization from school sites to office teams—to understand, exactly, how wellness fits into our day-to-day. ☀️ Taking action through Powerhouse Fridays. On these days, nearly every week, our staff are encouraged to step away from their usual workspaces to engage in different activities designed to refresh and inspire—to foster creativity, learning, and team bonding 🙂 Read more in our recent community newsletter:

A new study suggests that workplace wellness programs, like mindfulness classes and stress management training, may not provide tangible benefits to employees. The study found no significant positive impact and even suggests potential negative effects on some employees. Interestingly, the study found volunteering to be the only type of program with potential benefits for workers' wellbeing. Volunteering offers time off work, fosters social connections, and may teach new skills, positively affecting mental health. The study challenges the popularity of workplace wellness interventions, suggesting a need to focus on improving job quality instead. The findings advocate for socially meaningful work, fair pay, supportive management, and flexible work arrangements as crucial components of an ideal workplace. Transform wellbeing words…. ….into meaningful actions We need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. Security over fear Belief over doubt Sharing over silence Whatever it is that brings people together – their work, their location, interests, call for action, initiatives, support networks or external events – the benefits are far-reaching. These can provide opportunities for sharing, learning, leading by example and the power to influence positive change. It all depends on the people, the place and what’s at stake. Take a healthy interest in personal and professional wellbeing. #wellbeing #community #connections #worklife #positive #action #changeforgood https://lnkd.in/eQs7KVth
