“Cool stuff, Try it out! Thank you for the compliment year one students at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)! 😢 Free loaders 😢 Slackers 😢 Misalignment In school, students face many of the same challenges teams do at work. At our Team Mastery workshop at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), we learned how to navigate these very issues adapting to different communication styles, building stronger team by values and reflecting on their own strengths. One student shared, ‘This workshop was very effective in helping us understand how to work as a team with different individuals.’ Another said, ‘I didn’t expect to learn so many new concepts that I can apply in my daily life!’ I’m so glad SUSS invited me to teach students how to be great team players. The impact is clear. These are the skills that make a difference in both school and the workplace. Shouldn't we prioritise these learning in every classroom? Let's rethink education. The ants got to it first. This is what happened to me one day. I had the rice for my lunch all ready for me. Knowing well that it was just there and it’s something already mine, I didn’t really bother to secure it. I thought to myself well it’s just there anyway. I will take it whenever I want. But then again these group of ants had more desire for it at that moment and they got to it first. I salute the discipline of these ants. They work together, they look for opportunities and gather to get it for the benefit of the community. This made me reflect how I was at times in my leadership journey. How I knew opportunities were ripe for the taking and I simply let others grab it and say “oh well… maybe it’s not for me.” Opportunities are out there and the abundant universe is always sending these out. But it is those who are ready and willing to take it that actually receives it. It’s all a matter of our readiness and willingness to take it and secure it because it’s just there flowing. And reflecting back on how the ants worked together. I see how they as a tribe operate with an abundance mindset. There is a lot out there, more than what one ant can take, so they call in the others to partake of this opportunity. That’s a great lesson on teamwork for me. And it is my hope that other teams learn from the lesson the ants presented to me. Indeed there are a lot of lessons to derive in everyday life events… if one care to pause and reflect. #lessonsfromeverydaylife #leadershipandteams #abundancemindset

It’s Friday again. (My weekly post on reflections - of life and work) We’ve crossed mid-point - it’s quite a ride so far this year, with many learnings and each making strides on that journey. In this leadership journey, the pacing and learning has to be continuous. As they say, we will only stop learning when we die, so as living and growing beings, every situation, interaction, provides a learning experience if we glean from it. In Yathong’s earlier post this week, he shared on honing our skills through learnability and teachability - important elements in gaining new skills and expertise. In my reading this week, the author posits that the making of geniuses is - the ability to be comfortable in the uncomfortable. As I reflect, I wonder: 🔎 how many times have I rationalized to push aside/away an assignment or exposure when the subject is not one I’m familiar with? 🔎 how many times have I wanted (but not hard enough) to acquire a skill set? (the indefinite delays) 🔎 how many times have I declined on the basis of my busyness or lack of capacity? There are many instances we wonder if we’ll ever amount up or be enough. As Yathong shared, if it’s a mountain you need to conquer, start with the pebbles. The starting point is always the hardest - as you complete your first try, you will gain confidence coming to the 2nd, and 3rd… What’s your take?
