Earlier this month, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the International Road Federation (IRF Global)’s R2T conference in Orlando, Florida, the final transportation professionals gathering of 2024! The conference brought together thought leaders like Jared W. Perdue, P.E., Randell Iwasaki, Rizwan Baig, P.E., Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Ph.D, PE, FASCE, FITE, ASEMFL, Ali Almonbhi, PhD, PMP, PE (to name a few), innovators, future transportation engineers and passionate professionals across the globe - 50+ countries, to exchange insights on emerging technologies, roadsafety, sustainability, resilient infrastructure and innovative pavement solutions in the form of technical committee meetings, workshops, lectern sessions, networking and exhibition. I was privileged enough to be part of Road Safety Committee as a member and co-chair of task force on ‘Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Road Safety’ and moderate a few sessions on ‘Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and Smart Roads’, ‘Intelligent Transportation Systems and Future Mobility’, ‘ITS for Pedestrian and Two Wheeler Safety’, ‘ Automated Vehicles, Electrification and Connected Technology’ (to name a few). And it was really interesting to hear from the experts how innovation is speeding up in the transportation sector. Key takeaways for me: I. Meaningfull discussions on leveraging technology to enhance transportation safety. II. Innovative strategies to build resilient and sustainable infrastructure. III. Networking with global transportation practitioners dedicated to making road transportation safer, sustainable and smarter. IRF R2T was a perfect way to close out the year, energizing us all in terms of commitment to innovation and collaboration. A big shout out to International Road Federation (IRF Global) team, newly elected chairman Professor Kamil Elias Kaloush, C. Patrick Sankey President and CEO, Magid Elabyad EVP and entire organizing team, speakers and participants who made this conference such a success! #transportation #safety #sustainability #roadinfrastructure #electricvehicle #networking #innovation #research

Nerd alert: love to work for an organisation live tracking the traffic outside the office door: https://lnkd.in/gdQKbeTh On a serious note, an AI-powered traffic counter at Wellington House enables precise, real-time tracking of traffic, including cars, bikes, and pedestrians. Innovative and affordable tools like this support cities and citizens with data-driven decision-making, improving how government and communities work together. Generally, smart cities transport tech offers loads of potential in monitoring transport trends and evaluating infrastructure projects - with devices able to update in real-time from places people can't, in all weathers, at all times of night. Thought it was a fun one to share, especially after kick off conversations today about what we want showcase at the Smart Cities World Expo later this year.

Most of us have experienced on-board crowding when using #publictransportation. It's unpleasant, causes stress and discomfort, and affects the transportation system's performance. With a growing population and an expansion of Region #Stockholm, there is a great need to meet the increasing demand for public transportation. In the CAPA-CITY project, a joint collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Trafikförvaltningen, Region Stockholm (funder), researchers use #smartcard data to identify capacity gaps to support urban and regional development. "We want to understand and influence where, when and how the increased demand will appear. Smart data and approaches can lead to smarter solutions towards more sustainable public #transportationsystems and cities," says Anastasios Skoufas, a doctoral student in Public Transportation Systems at #KTH. Project members: Anastasios Skoufas, Matej Cebecauer, Wilco Burghout, Erik Jenelius, Oded Cats (grant recipient) from KTH, and Isak Jarlebring Rubensson, Trafikförvaltningen, Region Stockholm. Please find out more about the project and read about their first case study, presented and first-awarded at the 103rd Transportation Annual Board Annual Meeting 2024 (#TRBAM2024): https://lnkd.in/dkSrnMpC #urbandevelopment #transportplanning #kthroyalinstituteoftechnology
