✍️ We are very proud to endorse the joint statement on Advancing Precision Medicine for Europe's Cancer Patients with AI-powered Imaging. Artificial Intelligence in healthcare is a reality and has brought improvements for patients, professionals, providers, and other healthcare stakeholders as well as society at large. The AI Act has the potential to revolutionize digital health. It is essential to create a cohesive regulatory environment that supports the development and deployment of AI technologies in healthcare. This involves creating clear guidelines for the development, testing, and deployment of AI systems in healthcare, as well as fostering collaboration between regulators, industry stakeholders, and healthcare providers. 📚 Find all our position papers here https://lnkd.in/efKt93Xn #EUCAIM
Big day yesterday for European Society of Radiology and European Federation for Cancer Images (EUCAIM), as our very own Regina Beets-Tan, MD, PhD, together with Luis Marti-Bonmati, presented the Joint Statement on Advancing Precision Medicine with AI-powered Imaging at the #EUHPP Annual Meeting. European Federation for Cancer Images (EUCAIM) – the flagship project of the European Cancer Imaging Initiative – is our dedicated effort to harness AI-powered imaging to combat cancer across Europe. 🔬 What we try to solve: each year, 2.7 million Europeans are diagnosed with cancer, and 1.3 millions lose their lives. Without further action, diagnoses could exceed 3.2 million by 2040. 📜 Our Joint Statement outlines 10 strategic measures to enhance cancer care through AI and data integration, including: ✅ Robust AI guidelines 🌐 Enhanced data quality & infrastructure 🤝 Interdisciplinary research collaboration 🩺 Patient-centered & equitable access to AI tools ...and more! We were thrilled to receive positive feedback and support from the European Commission's representatives from DG CNCET and DG SANTE, who praised the impressive number of stakeholders already supporting the Joint Statement and noted that the goal of AI powered precision medicine is well aligned with the EU’s digital health policies, most importantly Europe’s Beating Cancer plan, whose implementation continues to be a priority of the Commission. They welcomed our focus on high-quality health data and AI development - which are transformative for healthcare – and pointed that European Federation for Cancer Images (EUCAIM)’s network can offer best practices & tools, to support the implementation of the EHDS regulation and engage with national stakeholders. Furthermore, EUCAIM’s approach aligns with their focus on interdisciplinarity, equitability, and data quality. All in all - we are excited for future collaborations! ✅📜🔬 🔚 Reflecting on the European Federation for Cancer Images (EUCAIM) experience and what the EU could further do, Regina Beets-Tan, MD, PhD emphasized the importance of enhancing AI capabilities in centers that are not yet experts. She highlighted that making a significant difference in digital health requires collaboration and guiding healthcare providers towards shared goals. 💪 Endorse Our Joint Statement: support our vision to transform digital health and advance precision medicine in cancer care.
