MTV Insights Studio delves into the psyche of today's youth, exploring their motivations, frustrations, and aspirations. Through in-depth case studies and research, MTV uncovers what drives this generation, how they navigate challenges, and what trends and attitudes shape their worldview. In collaboration with Makebelieve and Viacom18, we created an interactive and visually captivating case study spanning 200 pages. Our focus was on ensuring easy navigation throughout the study, with a prominently featured main title that allows users to seamlessly move between pages. Additionally, we incorporated convenient scroll-to-top and scroll-down buttons for enhanced usability. The entire case study was developed using React.js to provide a faster and more responsive web experience across various devices, including mobile, desktop, and iPad. Interactive videos interspersed between pages play a crucial role in conveying data and information to users. Despite the tight timeframe, our team successfully delivered this outstanding youth study for MTV Insights Studio. By understanding their perspectives, MTV provides a roadmap for businesses, brands, and society to engage with and support young people effectively. YouTube and TikTok are surpassing traditional TV. More and more people are now watching videos on their phones and computers rather than watching TV. I’m one of those people who doesn’t watch normal TV anymore. I’m not a sports fan so I really don’t need a DSTV subscription. Most people are watching these videos on their phones. I notice that even outside of YouTube with my own websites most of my traffic is from mobile especially if it’s from Google so my mobile optimisation is more important than the desktop UX optimisation. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is sooo important when creating a city map with clear directions, accessible buildings, and inclusive public transportation. It's about making sure everyone can fully participate in the digital world. Netflix is great example of a company that prioritizes accessibility. They offer features like audio descriptions for visually impaired users, closed captioning and subtitles for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, and keyboard navigation for people with motor impairments. When Accessibility Breaks, So Does User Experience. As someone who relies on assistive technology, I’ve always appreciated platforms that prioritize accessibility and Netflix was always one of these key platforms. However, Netflix recently removed the heading structure for “My List” making it difficult for screen readers to navigate and locate ongoing programs. This seemingly small change is a big deal. For avid Netflix users, being able to quickly find their favorite shows is essential—and when accessibility features break, the experience for people with disabilities becomes frustratingly incomplete. Beyond the user frustration, broken accessibility can result in loss of business and revenue. Alienating a significant portion of users means losing subscribers who value an inclusive experience. It’s a reminder for every product team: accessibility isn’t just a “nice-to-have” feature—it’s fundamental to creating a seamless user experience for everyone. As children, many of us learned the value of rewards. Our parents didn’t simply hand us everything we asked for. Instead, they employed a #method that made us feel as though we had earned our #rewards. Achieving X% in exams could earn us a coveted video game. New clothes were bought on special #occasions such as festivals, birthdays, or family weddings. Dining out at #restaurants was reserved for recreational outings like watching #movies. Today, the landscape of rewards and satisfaction has changed significantly. It's now common to see parents yielding to every whim and demand of their children. A family outing often ends with parents buying a toy to placate their child. This shift extends to adults as well, who derive satisfaction more from the act of #purchasing than from the product itself. The mere activity of purchasing releases dopamine, giving a fleeting sense of pleasure. 🎯The Diminishing Return of Frequent Purchases However, frequently purchasing items will eventually dampen the amount of #happiness derived from the activity. This is a classic example of the diminishing rate of marginal utility. Initially, buying a new item brings significant joy, but as the frequency of purchases increases, the satisfaction from each additional purchase decreases. The thrill wears off, and the pleasure derived from buying new items diminishes. ▶️The OTT Platform Phenomenon The most profound impact of this phenomenon is evident on #OTT platforms. While the #digital age has made an abundance of #content readily available, only a few #platforms truly stand out. The ones that do well have recognized the need to augment their offerings, increase variety, and explore different #genres to retain their audience's interest. 👨🏻💻The Role of Technology in Sustaining Engagement To counteract the diminishing returns of content consumption, the adoption of cutting-edge technology will play a crucial role for OTT platforms. Technologies such as #VirtualReality (VR) and #ExtendedReality (XR) offer immersive experiences that could redefine how we consume content. These advancements promise to engage viewers in ways that traditional viewing cannot, providing new avenues for excitement and satisfaction. Our #consumption habits have evolved, but the underlying principle of diminishing marginal utility remains unchanged. To sustain happiness and satisfaction, both consumers and providers must recognize the importance of variety, quality, and technological innovation. Just as our parents once taught us the value of earning our rewards, today's consumers must learn to seek more meaningful and #sustainable sources of satisfaction. The future of #engagement, particularly for OTT platforms, lies in leveraging #technology to create immersive and diverse experiences that keep the joy of discovery alive.
