🚀 In 2010, YouTube had 800M active users streaming over 2B videos daily, but internally, they were flying blind about user behavior. This tweet explains their journey to unravel the mystery behind the user behavior: https://lnkd.in/eP8H9m-Z A game-changer was when Kerry Rodden, Google’s first Quantitative UX Researcher, joined YouTube and asked the crucial question: "How are people actually using YouTube?" Kerry’s insights showed that less than half of sessions started on the homepage, prompting them to pivot towards personalized recommendations. This shift was pivotal in making YouTube a leading mobile video app. This story is a testament to the power of understanding users. Data-driven insights not only illuminate user behavior but can also transform products and strategies. 🔍📊 Remember, understanding your users qualitatively and quantitatively can reveal gaps, unexpected behaviors, and opportunities for innovation. #UserExperience #DataDriven #ProductInnovation #YouTubeTransformation #UXResearch

Spotify Wrapped for UX Researchers 2024: 🎙️Top genre: Participants answering a different question than the one you asked. 🔝 Most played track: ‘I don’t know, I just clicked it.’ 🌈 Your vibe: Nodding encouragingly while internally screaming, ‘This isn’t what we’re testing!’ 🔥 Breakout hit: That one respondent who used your interview to pitch themselves for a job. ⚡️ Biggest plot twist: Realizing halfway through that the participant has never even heard of your product. This year, you smiled through 17 minutes of awkward silences, powered through 5 participants who ‘don’t really use apps like this,’ and rephrased the same question 12 different ways to get any kind of answer.

Excited to share my latest dashboard design with you all! 🚀 Check out the new interface I've been working on, featuring categories like Music, Gaming, Education, Science & Tech, Entertainment, and Student Hubs. Your feedback is highly appreciated! - It's a multi-category or multi-interest dashboard, where users can explore and navigate through various categories such as Music, Gaming, Education, Science & Tech, Entertainment, and Student Hubs. If the dashboard allows users to share content from their social media accounts. This means users not only have access to various interest categories but can also engage with their social media networks directly from the dashboard. #UIUX #DashboardDesign #FeedbackWelcome #UserExperience #DesignThinking #TechCommunity #DigitalDesign #ProductDesign #UXDesign #UI #TechTrends.

🧠 Ben’s Friday Psych Bite: Familiarity Bias Ever feel like you instinctively know how to use a new app without a tutorial? You’re not alone, Familiarity Bias is at play! People naturally gravitate toward experiences that feel familiar. When you switch between your five different streaming apps, notice how the layout and controls feel nearly identical? That’s no coincidence, Familiarity Bias ensures we prefer things that don’t require much mental effort to figure out. Consider this: Could you imagine a different icon for “Play”? Would progress bars work if they didn’t use a familiar, linear line? And would “Episodic Videos” be as easy to find as “TV Shows”? Probably not—because these patterns are ingrained in our minds through years of use. So how can you use this when designing your next product feature? 👉 Start by thinking about the task at hand. How have users completed this before? 👀 Look beyond apps, how is this task done in everyday life? ▶️ Are there universal symbols or processes tied to this task? Remember, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes, sticking to what people already know is the key to success. #ux #psychology #product #design #designthinking Illustration by Jake Fleming

Understanding Users' Feelings: The Heart of Design ❤️ In today’s busy world, it’s super important to understand how users feel when we create products. Empathy means putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and seeing things from their point of view. When businesses take time to understand their customers' feelings, they can make products that really connect. Example: Take Uber, for example. 🚗 By showing upfront prices and letting users track their rides in real time, Uber helps ease worries and makes users feel safe. This caring approach has helped Uber become super popular! Beyond Satisfaction: Emotional design is more than just making users happy. It aims to create good feelings like joy, excitement, or even nostalgia. For instance, a music app might make playlists based on how users are feeling, making them feel happy and connected. 🎶 Addressing Challenges: One challenge in empathetic design is balancing what users want with what the business needs. It’s important to find a middle ground that works for everyone. Another challenge is figuring out how feelings affect behavior. By doing user research and looking at data, designers can learn a lot. 📊 Conclusion: Understanding how users feel is the key to great design. By adding empathy to your design process, you can create products that not only work well but also make users feel good and build strong relationships. 🤝 #UserExperience #Empathy #EmotionalDesign

Undo "Delete for me"! We've all been there - intending to delete a message for everyone in a chat on #WhatsApp, but accidentally hitting "Delete for me" instead. It's frustrating and lead to confusion or even embarrassment. With this new feature, you can quickly undo that action and choose "Delete for everyone" if that's what you originally intended. Why is this feature important? 🔹 User Control: Provides an extra layer of flexibility, allowing us to correct mistakes immediately. 🔹 Improved UX: Reduces frustration and potential miscommunication by offering a quick fix. 🔹 Enhanced Privacy: Ensures that sensitive or incorrect information can be swiftly removed from all participants’ view. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this feature. Let’s keep the conversation going! #WhatsAppUpdates #UserExperience #meta #TechInnovation #CustomerCentric #productmanagement

As my first post, I want to show appreciation for UX Case Studies at Growth.Design and for Louis-Xavier Lavallée and Dan Benoni specifically. Growth.Design’s case studies taught me new ways of perceiving designs I encounter every day, I believe it is a great website for everyone, not only people interested in UX. My favorite case study so far is about Spotify Wrapped. Even though I prefer using other platforms, most psychological techniques that have been acknowledged in this case study actively affected me one year prior when I was thinking about renewing my subscription just for this feature. Now I see how every part of it played a role in the way people love to use Spotify! So I would like to thank Growth.Design for inspiring me to finally take a step towards learning UX/UI Design. I’m only at the start of my journey, but I’m glad I saw how psychology and modern technology combine into something so intriguing yet intricate. PS. I love how their profile pictures here correspond to the website's colors, it feels so playful to me 😆 If you've read till this part and got interested, there is a quick link to their website: https://lnkd.in/eyeWmvzw
