This is almost EXACTLY where I started! 😂🤦♂️ I graduated from MIT with my MIS degree (Course 15) and I immediately got bored with programming. 🥱 I started editing video as a personal hobby and decided that it was fun, so I made another career from that. The difference being I wasn't poor. 💰😂 When you have a Runway (several months of fixed and variable expenses, liquid) you can spend time LEARNING and also doing work that doesn't pay you much, but you learn how the business works. 🤓 So I didn't get my first editing job because I was an MIT-educated computer programmer. 🤪 I got it because I spent my free time LEARNING how to edit video so I could be USEFUL to an editing house and then I got hired after HITTING THE BRICKS (I live in Manhattan, so I was literally able to walk around to editing houses and apply) and I knew what I was doing by the time I was applying. ==== My advice to the poster is to put together a reel of whatever it is you imagine you want to edit, so people can decide whether they trust you with their business or not. My first two broadcast videos were music videos for MTV and VH1 so after that it was easy sailing because I obviously had the skills to pass QC (quality control). Once you show professionals that you've already successfully accomplished professional work, they'll hire you if you're their best option at the time. The other thing was that I've always been a Freelancer while my counterparts have been Permalancers. Meaning I would run into friends of mine on client sites (back in the days before Remote) and they're like I'm booked for the next 5 months and I'm like I'm back on vacation after I do 2 weeks here! 😂🍹 So even if they wanted to hire my friends, they couldn't. 🤷♂️ That just leaves ME! 😂🦸♂️ So this poster is going to have to get in on the ground floor. Do work, free or not, that gets you the skills where somebody's going to tell somebody else that you know what you're doing and it would be a WIN for them to have you on their team.

Yes, that's a good amount. I know a lots of people gonna disagree with this statement,but...... This gonna will be helpful for both beginners and intermediate editors. See, if you just started and have less experience, believe me guys isme koi burai nahi hai ese projects pakdane mai. This type of projects teaches many lessons, like how this industry works, how communication is also important along with skills, aapko kaise parakhna hain ki your client will pay or not aur sabse badi baat aapko ye pta chal jaega ki aap kitne paani mai ho, kitna aapko improve karna hai. Aur kaise high paying clients ko target karna hai.
