My father wasn't happy with the results of this one, considering he completed his INSEAD MBA back in the 70's.... 😡 I recently ran a poll across Linked In & a survey to my network. From 536 respondents 64% do not believe that an MBA will assist to accelerate your career in Accounting & Finance. If you are pursuing the MBA, consider it a milestone personal achievement rather than a tool guaranteeing you a better role & a higher $$. But... There is also a third of the market that may take a liking to your application - perhaps researching the hiring managers' studies first will help guide your search.. #finance #careers #mba

This week I gave a presentation to a bunch of young people currently studying for their bachelor’s degree at a local university. Here are some basic principles and features to have in mind, which have paid off at our Group over the years: ☑️ Be persistent, hardworking, passionate and never give up. Excellence in business will be rewarded on the basis of merit and fairness, I knew none of our managers before joining the firm years ago. ☑️ Be patient, sooner or later opportunities will come your way. Just make sure you spot them and think clearly. ☑️ Be loyal and committed. Most managers grow to the role from within the firm. ☑️ Don’t be scared to try, dare to discover your limits and potential. ☑️ Find what is ideal for you and stick around. Jumping roles too often is not a good sign. ☑️ Keep learning and developing your knowledge and skills, identifying new trends, technologies and innovations in your field and ensuring you remain competitive in the long term. To all MBA aspirants who got the dreaded ding... (By the way, a ding is a rejection in the world of highly-competitive MBA applications ). You could be a.. -A 770-GMAT scorer? -From a prestigious institution (the IITs, top law schools, med school, et al) - Working for a stellar company -With profile "same" as a senior who got in Doesn't matter. Every one of the above has gotten a ding before. So... 1️⃣It is not always you. It can be the applicant pool that year. And what the school is focusing on. And of course, timing. But.. 2️⃣ It can be you. Every successful MBA candidate I worked with, had these in good measure. -The right mindset (& maturity) - Ability to add value and give - Oodles of Self-awareness and... ...they all took the application process seriously! The MBA application process, if done right, is designed to help you become the person you want to be in Business School. Oh, yeah, a great leader too. 💡I have a ding now. So now what? After you get the ding, the first thing you may want to look for is who or what or whom to blame. Or start the comparisons with your back-bencher from college or estranged relative. Unfortunately, that won't get you far. OK, so now what? So if you got dinged, time to go back to the drawing board again. For a new game plan. 📝What were the gaps? (yup, you know them. Low academic/test scores, too many jumps, career gaps, etc. ) 📝Were you really clear about your goals? 📝Had you put in your best efforts and were well-informed about what was to come in B-School? 📝Were you competitive enough? That's where a ding analysis could help. As will a fresh start. Some things, like your career, are worth more than one try! You got this! #careers #mbaprep #dinganalysis
