Damietta Port Authority Undergoes Rigorous Quality Certification Review
Shipping Arabia, June 16, 2024 — The Damietta Port Authority, led by Rear Admiral Ahmed Hawash, Chairman of the Board, recently hosted a significant quality certification review with Engineer Ahmed Al-Sayed, representing Bureau Veritas Egypt. This visit marks a critical step in the periodic evaluation process, ensuring the Authority's adherence to internationally recognized standards for quality, environmental management, and occupational health and safety (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018).
Throughout the review, the Bureau Veritas representative collaborated closely with Brigadier Engineer Ahmed Osman, Vice President for Planning and Investment at the Port, alongside department heads, to meticulously assess operational activities. The evaluation focused on the practical application of standards in daily operations, the capability of departmental teams to manage diverse operational scenarios effectively, and the overall impact of these practices on enhancing customer satisfaction and trust.
A series of multi-scenario drills were integral to this review, testing the port's preparedness and response mechanisms. These drills included a marine pollution control exercise at a petrochemical terminal, aimed at containing oil spills within the port basin using advanced pollution control equipment aboard the vessel Tathir 4. Additionally, the team executed fire-fighting simulations on a petrochemical ship and the tugboat Saleh, evaluating the coordinated response capabilities of various port departments.
The operations were closely monitored from the Authority’s Operations and Crisis Management Center and the Control Tower, providing comprehensive oversight of the response times and decision-making processes during these emergency simulations.
Rear Admiral Ahmed Hawash emphasized the importance of continuous training and skill development in maintaining these standards. He noted that the Damietta Port Authority's commitment to rigorous compliance is supported by ongoing training initiatives, strategic focus on human resources, and robust coordination with all operational and business entities within the port. This disciplined approach ensures the Damietta Port remains a reliable, safe, and efficient maritime hub, contributing significantly to the regional and international trade landscape.
