Our Sternberg Professor of Leadership and renowned medical expert, Dave A. Chokshi, MD, recently wrote an article for the New England Journal of Medicine highlighting the ethical implications of providing care in safety-net health systems. "We should also consider the moral obligations of the rest of the health care system to support the safety net, given its essential role. The ethical principle of solidarity, more commonly invoked outside the United States, captures this mutuality of obligation. Patients like Ms. M. and broader communities benefit when safety-net health systems are empowered — with resources and by means of policy — to fulfill their mission." I have been asked numerous times what public health medicine specialists actually do, based on their training and skill set. Where do we actually work once qualified. I would first like to say that the scope is so wide in actual fact, merely because to protect the health of populations means that you engage with all issues that may impact the health of people, animals and our environment. As these three areas of One health are interdependent. Are able to navigate and collaborate across numerous fields in these three One health areas. While doing so, we put into practice our training in the essential public health functions. Acting as advocates for the protection of the health of populations. Lobbying and harnessing the expertise of other professions through facilitating collaborations in pursuit of specific public health goals. The health politicians. Health in All Policies Health in all Policies (HiAP) is a change in the systems that determine how decisions are made and implemented by local, state, and federal governments to ensure that policy decisions have neutral or beneficial impacts on the determinants of health. HiAP emphasizes the need to collaborate across sectors to achieve common health goals, and is an innovative approach to the processes through which policies are created and implemented. NACCHO works to support local health departments implementing HiAP in their jurisdictions. NACCHO’s HiAP support includes one-on-one technical assistance, training, and resource development.

Plymouth Active Leisure is delighted to announce as part of the pilot and integration with our recently launched Active Health Programme , we have achieved The Active Standard. The Active Standard is a baseline accreditation for ukactive members. Member operators will be required to register their facilities for them to be assessed on a quality scale. TAS will support operators and suppliers in the public and private sectors to demonstrate effective compliance with laws, regulations, and other formal requirements, helping to strengthen resilience to reputational and operational risk and contributing to safer participation for consumers. Rhys Jones
As ukactive and its partners launch The Active Standard this week – a baseline certification designed for all operators – in this blog, CEO of ukactive, Huw Edwards, discusses the significant opportunity the certification has for operators to demonstrate their quality and compliance with UK law, ultimately helping to build consumer trust and improve reputation and resilience. The blog discusses how achieving the certification will support operators to foster opportunities for growth with new partners across the wider public health agenda, by instilling confidence in the safety and professionalism of their sites.
