We are delighted to announce the contribution of a number of our Steering Committee members in the recently published book, titled “Research Ethics in Epidemics and Pandemics: A Casebook. Associate Professor Dr. Sharon Kaur and Professor Dr. Phaikyeong Cheah co-authored a chapter and Dr. Teck Chuan Voo played the role as co-author and editor. The Casebook is the first comprehensive resource focusing on complex real-world cases and ethical issues specifically in the context of epidemics and pandemics. It aims to be of value to a range of academic and professional audiences with an interest in research ethics, epidemics and pandemics, and global health. Topics addressed include prioritising and de-prioritising research; adapting research and research procedures; accelerating ethical and regulatory review processes; reporting research findings and sharing data; and ethics review challenges. Our partner, Future Needs represented by Thanos Arvanitidis, participated in a workshop on Research Ethics and Medical Technology, organized by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Institute of Technology in Thessaloniki. "Since Future Needs is involved in the ethics assessment and promoting awareness of ELSI principles in the AI4LUNGS project, it’s important to engage in these discussions and deepen our understanding of the ethical considerations essential for research in this rapidly evolving field," said Thanos. The workshop, led by Dr. Alexander Bagattini and Rahel Sophie Martjan, covered the following topics: ▪ Research ethics: recognizing and avoiding scientific misconduct. ▪ The ethos of science, intellectual property, fraud, and authorship. ▪ Complex ethical considerations at the intersection of healthcare and technology. #digitalhealth #ethics
