Health and wealth are strongly tied to our ability to access safe and affordable housing and homeownership. Unfortunately intentional exclusion built into our society means having a healthy and affordable place to live is not a universal experience. Today, on Fair Housing Day, we commemorate the 56th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. Fair housing is more crucial than ever, especially as Missouri faces restrictions on housing vouchers, directly contradicting fair housing principles. We must remain vigilant, prioritizing the needs of tenants and families to ensure equitable housing and homeownership opportunities for all. Let's continue to unite in our efforts, striving for a future where everyone can access safe and healthy housing. Doing the BEST we can to get this HOUSING BUILT - Many times, by Wednesday, we are EXHAUSTED! Making sure that we are Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (should have been done since 1968, but wasn't) making sure that REDLINING does NOT continue (I work diligently at this!) and housing that is being built is NOT placed in POVERTY concentrated areas OR areas of Environmental hazards - AND we make SURE that each of the 539 cities/towns and 58 counties within the STATE OF CALIFORNIA integrate AFFORDABLE housing and HOUSING MADE MORE AFFORDABLE (YES, those are TWO (2) SEPARATE THINGS) into their HOUSING DNA- . The goal of the State is to build 2,000,000 NEW HOUSING UNITS by 2030 which means....WE'RE WORKING HARD, ALL OF US HERE AT HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (STATE OF CALIFORNIA). Since 2021, almost 200,000 new housing units have been built with many more to come! The REST is UP TO YOU and YOUR INDIVIDUAL CITY OR TOWN.... YOU MUST HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE! You can check what your City/Town is building by going to https://www.hcd.ca.gov - go to Housing Elements, pull up your city/town and it will tell you all you need to know. This is PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. :)

Producing new housing has to be a "shared responsibility," said @New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams at the @NYU Furman Center's Policy Breakfast in February. New York City official are hopeful that two new packages of laws—the City Council’s Fair Housing Framework and Mayor Eric Adams’ proposed City of Yes for Housing Opportunity plan—will work in tandem to fairly and equitably produce new housing across the city and ensure every single neighborhood contributes to solving the city’s acute housing crisis. The housing crisis is pushing out the very people who built and sustained this city. Teachers, service workers, and families who are at the heart of Austin are being priced out. According to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) House Price Index (FHFA HPI®), U.S. house prices rose 6.6 percent over the last year. This sad reality has a significant impact on the safety and well-being of our community members. Everyone deserves a place to call home and a warm place to lay their head at night. That’s why I’m deeply committed to propelling affordable housing initiatives. One project we’re developing will have 50% affordable units to ensure that the people who power this city can actually afford to live here. Another is a safe house for women in crisis. My passion for affordable housing is a commitment to protecting the diversity and resilience that makes Austin special. Housing is not just a market—it's a human right.
