🌀 Hurricane Milton looks to be a once in a century level storm, set to hit Tampa/St. Pete late Wednesday to early Thursday morning. This storm has the potential to be the most destructive hurricane to hit West-Central Florida ever. As a category 4 storm, it would have wind speeds of 130mph and gusts up to 160mph. With friends and family in Tampa, Ocala, and Jacksonville I hope this is less devastating than it appears to be. 🚛 The ILA Strike and Hurricane Helene caused a surge in load post volumes last week, increasing by 17%. This applied to dry van and reefers, while we saw open deck loads up 12%. ⛽ The average price of diesel rose Monday to $3.58/gallon. This is the third week in a row with increases. 🚢 The port strike ended last week, with an agreed upon 61% pay raise. The contract period has been extended until January 15, 2025, which gives the sides more time to negotiate outstanding issues like automation. Hurricane Milton Disrupting Florida Freight Markets   Hurricane Milton’s impending landfall just south of Tampa is already creating significant disruptions in Florida’s freight markets. The Lakeland market, which services Tampa and Orlando, is seeing a surge in inbound freight volume as shippers position goods ahead of the storm. Outbound volumes are also climbing as shippers make last-minute efforts to move freight out of the area.   The market’s balance is shifting, with inbound tender rejection rates reaching nearly 10%, signaling that carriers are avoiding the region due to the storm.
