Key freight markets in Florida are expected to experience significant disruptions as Hurricane Milton is forecasted to hit the state's Gulf coast Wednesday night. Large cities within the storm's path are Tampa and Orlando, both in the top 25 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. As is the case before a hurricane, truckload demand has spiked as a probable function of shippers' trying to make a last-second push to get freight out of the region. However, also typical in this scenario, capacity has reportedly tightened as many carriers have turned away loads in the days leading up to the storm. Just like Hurricane Helene's impacts to Florida's Big Bend region as well as to western North Carolina, Milton threatens a similar fate to central and southern Florida's truckload market as residual damage to infrastructure and immediate demand to move emergency aid are increasingly likely in the storm's aftermath. Commerce Express Inc. will monitor the situation closely and provide relevant updates to customers as it relates to their freight needs. . . . #hurricane #milton #severeweather #trucking #truckload #FTL #LTL #logistics #logisticscompany #CommerceExpressInc

🌀 Hurricane Milton looks to be a once in a century level storm, set to hit Tampa/St. Pete late Wednesday to early Thursday morning. This storm has the potential to be the most destructive hurricane to hit West-Central Florida ever. As a category 4 storm, it would have wind speeds of 130mph and gusts up to 160mph. With friends and family in Tampa, Ocala, and Jacksonville I hope this is less devastating than it appears to be. 🚛 The ILA Strike and Hurricane Helene caused a surge in load post volumes last week, increasing by 17%. This applied to dry van and reefers, while we saw open deck loads up 12%. ⛽ The average price of diesel rose Monday to $3.58/gallon. This is the third week in a row with increases. 🚢 The port strike ended last week, with an agreed upon 61% pay raise. The contract period has been extended until January 15, 2025, which gives the sides more time to negotiate outstanding issues like automation. It's a busy time in the logistics industry right now with everything going on. KCH is here to help you navigate through it all. Let's setup a time to chat and see where we can help! 📲 (423) 443-0845 📩 mherring@kchtrans.com #logistics #supplychain #hurricanemilton #KCHtransportation

Hurricane Milton has caused an estimated $160-180 billion in damage and economic loss, marking one of the most devastating storms in Florida’s history. In the aftermath, millions of homes remain without power, fuel supplies are critically low, and Florida’s agricultural sector faces further damage after already being hit by Hurricane Helene just weeks prior. With disruptions to Florida’s ports and logistics operations—including fuel shortages and facility closures—supply chains are feeling the strain. Relief efforts are underway, but the full impact on freight rates and seasonal volatility remains to be seen. Hurricane Milton Disrupting Florida Freight Markets Hurricane Milton’s impending landfall just south of Tampa is already creating significant disruptions in Florida’s freight markets. The Lakeland market, which services Tampa and Orlando, is seeing a surge in inbound freight volume as shippers position goods ahead of the storm. Outbound volumes are also climbing as shippers make last-minute efforts to move freight out of the area. The market’s balance is shifting, with inbound tender rejection rates reaching nearly 10%, signaling that carriers are avoiding the region due to the storm. This could lead to supply chain imbalances during recovery and rebuilding efforts. Read the full article for more details: https://lnkd.in/e3MqcXs4. #FreightMarket #Florida #Hurricane

⚠ Hurricane Milton Update ⚠ KDL is actively monitoring Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall on the Central Florida Gulf Coast between Wednesday and Thursday this week. To our customers and affiliates in the path of the storm, we hope you all stay safe, and our thoughts are with you as you navigate the impact and aftermath. Leading into this storm we strongly advise those with shipments scheduled to move into the affected areas to hold onto those shipments if possible until the storm passes and the region begins to reopen. Carriers will likely embargo freight into Central Florida, meaning shipments could be delayed or returned. Keeping the freight in your possession will help you control your delivery plan and avoid additional costs. If you are a KDL customer and need assistance, please reach out to our Customer Service team. If you are looking for a new 3PL provider and appreciate the efforts we take to getting this type of information into the hands of our clients, drop us an email at info@kdlog.com. Hurricane Milton, a powerful Category 3 storm, slammed into Florida's west coast near Siesta Key around 8:30 PM ET with 120 mph winds. This major hurricane, which had intensified into a Category 5 earlier this week, brings a renewed threat to an area still recovering from Hurricane Helene. Milton is unleashing heavy rain, high winds, and tornadoes across the Tampa Bay area and southwest Florida. The storm surge, predicted to reach up to 15 feet in some areas, poses a catastrophic risk to coastal communities. After crossing Florida, Hurricane Milton will re-emerge in the Atlantic early Thursday, bringing a dangerous storm surge of 3-5 feet to coastal Georgia from Savannah down to the Florida border. Areas north of Savannah, including Charleston, can expect a slightly lower surge of up to 3 feet. #Hurricane #Milton #EventResponse #Insurance #Insurtech #ExtremeWeather #Opterrix

As Hurricane Milton barrels toward Florida’s west coast, the trucking industry is once again facing severe disruptions, much like those caused by recent storms like Hurricane Helene. The effects of this Category 4 hurricane are expected to be both operational and financial, affecting transportation routes, fuel supply chains, and critical hubs such as Port Tampa Bay, which handles vital imports including fuel, steel, and food products. The economic repercussions for the trucking industry will be substantial, with costs potentially exceeding $1 billion. #hurricanemilton #trucking #heavyhaul #supplychains https://lnkd.in/e4QhMy9q
