good story from The Center Square on the issues facing our state's trucking industry that will impact everyone in the state if the Governor and legislature do not make changes to Washington being tied to CA's emissions regulations program for EV trucks: "in a Dec. 17 letter to Inslee, Ferguson, and several other state governors, the trucking advocates warn that while they’ve sought to reduce carbon emission from both fuels and vehicles, 'the damage that our industry will incur by implementing ACT on its current rushed timeline will curtail these critical efforts as clean diesel truck availability will become limited, keeping older, heavier polluting trucks on the road. It will also lead to the inevitable loss in jobs and businesses.' The trucking industry groups are requesting the states defer implementation of ACT “to provide for an opportunity to work together to find a solution that works toward our state’s environmental goals,' and instead focus more on the SmartWay program started in 2004." https://lnkd.in/gABnF_dJ

"Entirely unachievable." That's the trucking industry's reaction to new, tougher-than-expected emission standards for heavy-duty trucks recently announced by the Biden Administration. The new rules carry real consequences for the U.S. supply chain and movement of freight throughout the economy. The new rules are slightly stricter than those proposed last year. For example, motor carriers will have more time (2030, instead of 2027) to build out a zero-emissions infrastructure. But the flip-side is stronger emissions limits in 2031 and 2032. By 2032, the proposed rule seeks to get 50% of vocational vehicles like buses and waste haulers to zero emissions; 35% of new short-haul regional tractors; and 25% of new long-haul trucks. That means more than 40% of all heavy-duty trucks need to be zero emissions in six upcoming model years. Here's my take.

Despite the anticipated savings in fuel costs and maintenance, recent analysis by Ryder suggests that the total cost of ownership for battery electric trucks may not be as advantageous as previously thought. Infrastructure challenges and other factors may mitigate the expected savings, posing a new perspective on the adoption of electric trucks in the industry. #ElectricTrucks #TotalCostofOwnership #TruckingIndustry #RyderAnalysis

7moMy question is how will the government agencies and manufacturers level the playing field for small owner operator businesses? Particularly as mandates may lock most small owners out of the ability to purchase this required equipment. Who’s going to pay for these disruptions caused by politics picking winners and losers? How soon will they be able to build even 500,000 EV semi trucks I foresee this is a realistic number in order to have the impact regulators desire. Is designing and building everything as throwaway equipment really environmentally helpful? Well it is to to person selling you the replacements. 🤔
