So pleased to meet in person at SXSW: author, demographer extraordinaire, and fellow soldier in the ageing and longevity space - Bradley Schurman. Loved hearing Bradley's always eye-opening perspectives on the SXSW stage. Did YOU know for example that "people aged 65+ now represent the fastest-growing segment of the labor force - by far." And that "only 8% of companies consider 'age' as part of the DEI strategies?" Right?!?!? Of course I agree with Bradley's analysis that: "Companies will need to think in creative new ways about how to engage these workers and make the most of what they have to offer." 👉 Check out Bradley's excellent book titled The SuperAge: decoding Our Demographic Destiny https://lnkd.in/gPv5Cm8g His co-presenter, Megan Gerhardt, Ph.D., further explained the idea of leveraging generational intelligence - and learning from each other (God Forbid!) within organizations for faster pathways to true success. 👉 Check out Megan's book titled Gentelligence Revolutionary Approach to Leading an Intergenerational Workforce https://lnkd.in/g6CM2fkw Thinking strategically about firmly-in-place trends for aging and longevity - and what must be done to create wins for both companies AND employees - is gaining greater traction in the corporate world. YAY! #longevityeconomy #careeconomy #agingpopulation

Ahead of #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth (November), we join The White House House in honoring the strength, compassion, and resilience of America’s family caregivers. President Biden's proclamation reaffirms a commitment to supporting our nation's 53 million caregivers who often juggle complex care roles without sufficient support. The proclamation highlights data from NAC and AARP, while also giving a nod to the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. Caregivers provide essential, unpaid care every day, often at a great personal cost. The administration’s continued work—through policies, funding, and the first-ever National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers—aims to relieve this hardship. Let’s take the coming month to recognize, honor, and advocate for those who care for our loved ones. Read the full proclamation for more information. https://lnkd.in/eV7HjmC2 Learn more about the National Strategy. https://lnkd.in/grmcp4PR #ICare #FamilyCaregivers #CaregiverSupport #NFMC2024 #Caregiving #CaregivingIsLove

As professional care options dwindle, families across America are stepping up to shoulder the growing burden of caregiving. This week, we're exploring the tough realities they now face - from the staggering economic toll to the personal sacrifices required. The numbers tell a sobering story: 💰 38 million family caregivers provide 36 billion hours of unpaid care annually, costing the US $600 billion in 2023 alone. 💼 6 in 10 family caregivers are employed, and over 66% of them have had to adjust their work lives. 📈 The family caregiver shortage is projected to worsen. There are currently 3.8 million family caregivers. This will only reach 11 million by 2040. Urgent, multi-faceted solutions are needed to ensure vulnerable populations receive quality care without sacrificing the health and well-being of family caregivers. Next week, we'll look at the initiatives and changes we need to make and the innovative approaches required to address this challenge head-on. #aging #caregiving

As your loved one ages, it's common to notice changes in cognitive function. Distinguishing between normal aging and signs of something more serious involves assessing six cognitive domains. Signs differ from person to person, but normal age-related changes are usually infrequent and minor, while warning signs are more noticeable and impactful. When you observe a change in functioning, consider these three factors: 1. Frequency of changes. 2. Previous baseline or “normal” state. 3. Impact on daily life. If you have concerns, consult a doctor early for a thorough assessment to rule out other causes. And if you need support, Home Care Assistance offers expertly trained caregivers to support your loved one's needs no matter where they're at. https://lnkd.in/gZvhRJB #seniorcare #caregiving #athomecare #inhomecare #edmontonalberta #seniorlivingcommunity #homecare #hcaEdmonton #hcacares
