That's true, many North American Performing Arts organizations and companies are years ahead of most of the European organizations in reflecting the aspects Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). They address racial injustice, gender disparity, and ableism, as well as discrimination and power abuse more serious and with more financial power. We should take this as an example in order to quickly catch up on these aspects and not always be years behind, as with #metoo a.o.
Opera America are doing brilliant work reflecting on Racial Justice within the industry both within the US and further afield. They will be hosting another two day forum this coming March. Really looking forward to being part of it and joining one of my all time favourites (Quo Johnson) in conversation on March 7th at 1:15pm.

In our quality of life workshops, the bottom line is finding individual agency.... read this: "Growing older gives me a different perspective on what we call “quality of life”. I’m fortunate: quality of life for me means being able to get to the opera. At 91, I also appreciate the value of the smaller things: friendship, digestion, good eyesight. Some of these things I even have some power to maintain." How to be a Perennial™ for Your Quality of Life with Lindsay McDonald 💃 https://lnkd.in/gd5Hv7Vc

The Sydney Opera House just missed a golden opportunity. They recently launched a new seat view feature, but instead of using cutting-edge technology, they relied on outdated methods. Imagine this: Instead of taking thousands of photos, they could have used a digital twin of the venue. This would not only save time but also opened up exciting possibilities for their clients and customers: - Set design optimisation: Visualise seats with set pieces in place to ensure perfect sightlines. - Pre-programming capabilities: Program lighting, AV, pyrotechnics, and show control systems before even stepping foot in the venue. - 3D audio analysis: Analyse sound patterns in a fully immersive 3D environment. - Augmented Reality: Imagine seeing Dame Jone Sutherland performing on the Opera Theatre stage or seeing the Sydney Theatre companies set in place before it is even constructed. - Virtual Reality: Create virtual tours of the Sydney Opera House for those people not lucky enough to be able to visit in real life. The Opera House could have taken their service offering to the next level. Instead, they chose the path of least resistance. Let’s hope they embrace innovation next time. P.S. What other features do you think digital twins could revolutionise in venues? Comment below!
We pushed View From Seat live earlier this week, meaning you can make a more informed decision about your seat when booking your next show at the Opera House. Photographs were captured with care and patience by Daniel Boud and Jay Patel, assisted by Sherry Zheng. A big thanks to our team of Krystal Nolan, Colin Taylor, Luke Micó, Ben Grace, Paayal Dharmani, JK Power and Matt Osborn, all who played a key part in the project. Stop Selling Yourself Short! We pour our hearts and souls into our performances, but when it comes to marketing, many opera singers undervalue their worth. Here's the tip: Position yourself as the expert you are! Instead of just listing performance dates, share your knowledge and insights. Offer vocal tips, explain opera history, or discuss the challenges of a particular role. This establishes your credibility and attracts clients and collaborators. Remember: Share your journey Create valuable content Be confident By positioning yourself as an authority, you'll attract opportunities that align with your goals and build a thriving career that goes beyond performing. #OperaLife #MarketingForMusicians #Vocalist #ClassicalMusic #KnowYourWorth How do you share your expertise with the world? Let's discuss in the comments! 👇
