Community Health First welcomes the Victorian Government’s investment in our healthcare system and acknowledges that community health program funding has not been cut. Despite this, over $8 billion of investment will be used to increase funding to our hospitals rather than addressing the underlying causes of our unsustainable healthcare system. The more we invest in prevention, the healthier our communities become and the less we will need to rely on costly ambulance, emergency, and hospital services. The state budget fails to invest in measures that will make our system more stable, including proven community health programs that will reduce strain on our emergency departments and avoid costly hospital services. At a time when many families are struggling with the cost-of-living, increased investment is needed in Victoria’s community health sector to ensure every person can access the healthcare they need, close to home. Community health is there to provide care to those who need it most, yet our programs have seen no increase in funding despite record population growth. Following the budget this week, Community Health First will renew our calls on Government to invest in ensuring all Victorians have access to the healthcare they need, when and where they need it. It is not too late to put #CommunityHealthFirst! To read our media release, please visit https://lnkd.in/gtrbqtWp.

Bringing together innovation from across the public and the voluntary sectors can be challenging. But public services need fresh ideas to save money and drive improvement through collaboration.⠀ ⠀ We recently worked with Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust Integrated Care System (ICS) and South East Essex Alliance (SSE Alliance) around the distribution of the Health Inequalities Fund which is focused on projects supporting the 20% most deprived areas of the population.⠀ ⠀ There was a need to try a digital approach to support engagement and collaboration helping to generate new ideas to solve these health inequalities challenges.⠀ ⠀ See how we helped here👇⠀ https://lnkd.in/eSshGHxd ⠀ #casestudy #nhs #publicsector #nhsinnovation #digitaltransformation #healthcare #healthcareinnovation

The Commonwealth Fund released important findings during National Health Center Week highlighting the challenges Community Health Centers face as they continue to provide high-quality care to a record 32.5 million people. The survey of 737 heath center leaders described persistent workforce shortages, lack of financial resources, and Medicaid redeterminations. Yet, health centers are doing more than ever – increasing the use of telehealth services, providing more substance use treatment, and screening for social needs. Highlights include: . Nearly all Community Health Centers offer timely appointments (88%) and expanded hours for patients to receive care (93%). . Two out of three (65%) of health centers report that lack of financial resources to address unmet needs was a major challenge. . Three out four health centers (77%) are experiencing a shortage of mental health providers. . Health centers report growing workforce challenges with over 70 percent experiencing shortages of primary care physicians (70%), nurses (70%) or enabling services providers (69%). This important narrative demonstrates the resilience of health centers after working on the frontlines of a devastating global pandemic and the critical importance of investing in primary care. Primary care is the foundation of a high-performing healthcare system. It saves lives and reduces healthcare costs. #Valuechcs #NHCW24

🌍 Tackling health inequalities remains a critical priority for the NHS, but one factor often overlooked is the impact of travel and parking costs on service accessibility. 🚗💷 For many, the choice to attend essential healthcare services can be heavily influenced by whether they can afford to travel or find affordable parking. These hidden barriers can further widen the gap in access to care, especially for those in underserved communities. The King's Fund highlights 7 key priorities for tackling health inequalities, but let’s also keep in mind the everyday costs that can prevent people from seeking care when they need it most. 1. Develop a cross-government health inequalities strategy for the 10-year health plan to feed into. 2. Reorientate the NHS to focus on prevention. 3. Radically change the relationships the NHS has with people and communities, from ‘power over’ to ‘power with’. 4. Tackle racism and discrimination in the NHS and cultivate a culture of compassion. 5. Enable staff to identify and act on health inequalities and capture learning. 6. Empower place-based partnerships to take more decisions about how NHS money is spent. 7. Actively support local voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations through changes in financial planning and commissioning. If we truly want to create an equitable healthcare system, we need to consider all the factors that affect access to services. Let’s work together to address these challenges and make healthcare more accessible for everyone. 💙 #HealthInequalities #AccessibleHealthcare #NHS #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #SupportLocalCare

🩺Can the 'Front Door' of the NHS be fixed? We were thrilled to read about Health Secretary, Wes Streeting’s announcement of the ‘Neighbourhood Health Service’, a transformative initiative that aims to improve GP services and community health. This aligns perfectly with our mission within Community Health, to better understand & develop solutions to reduce health inequalities & to focus on preventative measures at a local level. 👩🏻⚕️Labour’s shift of focus from hospital to primary care is a promising start, however, sufficient resources and funding needs to also be available within community health to help prevent some people needing to get to the ‘front door’ to see their GP. The role of the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sector (VCFSE) is vital to recognise in this solution. They offer a vast amount of alternative options for people to support their own health and wellbeing and must work with primary care and community health teams as equal partners. ❤️🩹We’ve seen this delivered in practice when working with locality partnerships and the VCFSE sector to create co-designed community-based health and wellbeing interventions with their local residents. By focusing on bringing health teams closer to the communities they serve and addressing health inequalities through preventive approaches and social connection, we can create a healthier, more connected society. 📁Click below for a free download with information on our preventative projects within Community Health. #NHS #PreventativeMeasures #CommunityEngagement #VCSFE #HealthInequalities #SocialConnection #Labour https://lnkd.in/e9Pdmu35

🌾 Strengthening Rural Healthcare: A Call to Action 🏥 Rural hospitals are vital to community health but are increasingly facing financial distress that threatens their operations. 🚨 Policymakers are stepping up, exploring two key strategies to alleviate this strain: 1️⃣ Targeted Financial Support - By refining the allocation of public funds, we can ensure that essential healthcare providers receive the backing they need. Programs like Medicare can play a crucial role in enhancing financial health and maintaining access to critical services. 2️⃣ Regulatory Intervention - In markets where competition is dwindling, robust regulatory frameworks are essential. They help prevent price hikes and ensure quality care remains accessible. These strategies not only aim to bolster the viability of rural hospitals but also safeguard healthcare access for underserved populations. The future of rural healthcare depends on our ability to implement these nuanced approaches effectively! 💪 👉 Click the link for a deeper dive into these vital policy strategies! #CommunityHealth #FinancialSupport #HealthEconomics #HealthcarePolicy #Publications #RuralHealth #Sustainability #MarketAccess #MarketAccessToday

Following the words of Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care) about the future of British healthcare, some key discussion points were about moving from sickness to prevention and moving from analogue to digital. ◈ From analogue to digital: The analogue to digital switchover has been going on for the past 7 years, however many councils still have not started this process, leaving vulnerable people using reactive telecare systems to alert caregivers in emergencies rather than using a more proactive approach that benefits both the user and the caregiver. London Borough of Sutton on the other hand, has already innovated its approach towards its community. Now residents in Sutton are no longer dependent on outdated 'button and box' alarm systems. Instead, they can live more independently, with the technology quietly monitoring their wellbeing in the background. The digital switchover has enabled services to be smoother and serve as a central hub for the community to understand and adapt to the new technology, avoiding digital literacy challenges and resistance to change. ◈ From sickness to prevention By shifting from traditional reactive care models to proactive ones, we have worked in partnership with London Borough of Sutton, Sutton Housing Partnership and Medequip Connect, to improve the quality of life for all residents across Sutton making it easier to manage rising demands, limited budgets, and the aging population. For example, an increase in bathroom visits can trigger a notification that may lead to a health check, preventing issues from escalating unnoticed as well as preventing unnecessary hospital admissions. This type of proactive care has empowered residents to live with greater freedom and dignity. Access Technology Enabled Care helps to evolve and transform care delivery models for the better to deliver more outcomes-focused care that matters to the individual.
