The fourth point in this list by Anna Bird financial advisers should be aware of. It is crucial. Financial advisers can help more families with disabled children avoid the trap of being locked out of Junior ISAs or Child Trust Funds. My three key asks would be that we: 👉 Identify SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) individuals within the family EARLY in the advice process 👉Understand the implications of savings held in a SEND young person's name, once they turn 18 (it comes down to Access, Risk and Means-tested benefits) 👉Educate and guide families around these issues so that they can make an informed decision about whether to save, how to save and how to avoid the traps. It is often a rude shock for parents when a child turns 18 to find out that they cannot access savings. It's a rude shock because parents are not aware of the implications. Let's build this into the advice process. SENDA
Contact’s Counting the Costs finds the benefit system feels like a minefield for most families. This means families are missing out on millions. Contact is uniquely placed to help families get what they are entitled to, making the process of claiming less stressful. On average Contact can boost an eligible family’s income by £6,000 per year. Until Tuesday 10 December, the Big Give will double every pound donated to our Lifeline appeal. This means every gift makes twice the impact for families who need our lifechanging advice and campaigns. Donate here: bit.ly/donate-big-give

Please help. Earlier this week, I visited Parliament with some brilliant parent campaigners. They were there to speak to the Disability Minister and MPs about how to make life more affordable for families with disabled children. Their message was clear. - Make it easier for carers to work, by providing good school support and childcare for disabled children. - Value unpaid care more highly in the benefits system. - Give every parent carer a benefits check, and train DWP staff better. - End the injustice of families being locked out of their own savings. - Put families with disabled children - who live in some of the poorest housholds in Britain - at the heart of the government's child poverty strategy. We can and must do better. If you agree, please consider supporting our lifeline appeal. This week, your donations will be doubled, and that means we can support more amazing parent-led campaigns like this one, and give families the specialist financial information and advice they need. https://lnkd.in/eBdJPEHc

Sadly, each year, many families who have children with SEND are locked out of their own savings such as Junior ISAs or Child Trust Funds. Financial Advisers can help more families with disabled children avoid this trap by: 👉 Identifying SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) individuals within the family EARLY in the advice process 👉Understanding the implications of savings held in a SEND young person's name, once they turn 18 (it comes down to Access, Risk and Means-tested benefits) 👉Educate and guide families around these issues so that they can make an informed decision about whether to save, how to save and how to avoid the traps. Thank you to Anna Bird and Contact for helping to bring this important issue to the forefront of people's minds. #SEND #Disability #specialeducationalneeds #EHCP #SENDfamily #SENfamily #financialadvisers

Our entire 2024 donation is equivalent to one banana?! 🍌😵 Today we announced a record-breaking year in 2024 - a US$6.5M / AU$10M donated to our impact partners. But here’s the kicker: this amount is just slightly more than the US$6.2M spent on a banana duct-taped to a wall at an art auction last week – a headline-grabbing symbol of modern extravagance.🤦♀️ It's a comparison that highlights a stark contrast between indulgent displays of wealth & the transformative potential of that same money when directed toward meaningful causes. While art can provoke thought and conversation, I believe Humanitix's contributions provoke real change – the kind that ripples through communities and generations. This year we have funded initiatives such as education for underprivileged children, direct cash transfers to the world's poorest households, Indigenous education, and the provision of healthcare and life’s basic necessities in some of the world’s most underserved communities. It’s both inspiring and sobering to realise that the same amount could have been spent on, well, a banana. That is indeed B-A-N-A-N-A-S to me, but that's the world we are living in right now. However, at Humanitix we believe that 'The world is not f*cked'. Yes it could be better, but there's no future in giving up. We create a better world by always striving, choosing hope, and prioritising progress over perfection. A duct-taped banana made headlines, but Humanitix’s impact is quietly rewriting futures. It's an awesome day to celebrate and recognise the incredible good we can create when we focus on impact over indulgence, the substantial over the sensational. #ticketsforgoodnotgreed #humanitix #impactreport #impactmilestone #socialimpact #donation #impact #techforgood #nonprofit #techcharity #compassionatecapitalism Sarah MacDiarmid Joshua Ross Adam McCurdie James Humpherson Sam Adams-Nye Jessica Markowitz Pierce Coady David Madison janelle prescott Yalari GiveDirectly Room to Read
