Wellington Water people are out there days, nights, and weekends making sure your drinking water is safe and healthy, your wastewater disappears safely, and stormwater drains away. Mahi Monday shines a light on some of those people. Meet Wade, one of our amazing members of the Asset Data team! Wade learnt about the importance of the water industry and of water as a resource at a young age through his dad, a Water Treatment Plant Operator. This really fuelled his appreciation and desire to work in the water industry. Now, he works as a Senior Analyst – Data Quality, managing asset data records and making sure that data is accessible. This includes entering in asset details (such as material and size), mapping out assets in GIS, filing away drawings/plans and more. Let’s chat with Wade to find out more about his mahi! ❓ So, Wade – What’s your favourite part of working at Wellington Water? I get to work in an industry that I am passionate about, plus I get to make a difference. I also enjoy helping my team and people across the wider Wellington Water whānau understand the importance of high-quality asset data, and how it’s needed to effectively build, operate, maintain, and plan for the assets we manage on behalf of our councils. ❓ What’s your proudest achievement? Recently my team and I achieved a Zero As-Built Plan Backlog. This was a huge undertaking as at its peak three years ago we had a backlog of 700 existing as-built plans that needed entering into our asset systems, including the completed projects and new subdivision development plans, this number would’ve been 1,000! Having no backlog means that we have more up-to-date data of the network available. It also means that people can expect us to process new incoming plans much faster. ❓ What are you working on at the moment? My main focus now is working towards having the best possible asset register that will hold all the data and information that help us plan, maintain and operate assets in the region. This involves identifying and populating gaps in our existing asset data, capturing missing assets, centralising our asset documentation, and generating reports on our asset data.
