🌲Circular Solutions: Innovating Wood Reuse in Construction Yesterday morning, I had the privilege of presenting with my team our research findings to the Coast Waste Management Association. My Sustainable Business Leadership capstone project, completed in June for the National Zero Waste Council, focused on transforming how the construction, renovation, and demolition (CRD) industry approaches wood resources. You can now find our full report published on the National Zero Waste Council's website here: 🔗 Final Report https://lnkd.in/gk-sAe5p Key Highlights: 🧠 Behaviour Change: Transitioning the CRD industry from linear "waste" systems to circular reuse solutions through behavior changes and mindset shifts. 📐 Design Change: Leveraging Design for Disassembly (DfD) principles to revolutionize construction practices and material recovery. As a designer and LEED Green Associate, I was particularly excited how our project explored deeper the potential for design to improve this industry. After all, 80% of a product's environmental impact is determined during the design phase (Ellen MacArthur Foundation). The response in this space was incredibly encouraging! With industry professionals suggesting applications for our research, including the development of sector-specific policy briefs. I loved the collective energy in the room with varying professionals all committed to innovative resource management and waste reduction. I’m hopeful to see our research translate into impact.
