Exploring real-world examples of how we are driving the circular transformation 🔎 As part of the INNOBIOVC Programme, our Value Chain Generator® analysed and prioritised local industries within Business Upper Austria - OÖ. Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH to identify key circular economy opportunities to guide their regional industries toward a green transformation. The bakery industry emerged as one with the most potential for transforming waste to value. Specifically, fermenting bakery by-products into organic acids for pharmaceutical companies was identified as a localised, feasible circular solution with a stable business model! The potential result? A 2.5-fold reduction in GHG emissions by diverting waste from landfills, valuable compounds for pharma, and increased regional value capture. Value Chain Generator® also identified potential fermentation technology providers in neighbouring regions, bridging the local implementation gap! We’re thrilled to announce that Willem Albert Rensink, Category Group Director - R&D Hygiene Home & Innovation Partnerships, Reckitt, is giving the keynote address on Day One of World Bio Markets 2024 next month in The Hague. Willem will explore ‘Embedding sustainability in product development’ in his talk and how that for Reckitt, carbon emissions are driven by raw materials. To reduce emissions, their approach is that the amount of renewable carbon needs to be increased in the raw material mix. Chemically identical raw materials with renewable carbon typically come with an on-cost. As only a small segment of consumers are willing to pay a premium for sustainability, this is not a viable solution. Reckitt is looking for sustainable raw materials as a driver of product performance to provide consumers with a sustainable superior product experience.
