PrEP has been available in Canada since 2016, but we haven't seen the #HIV prevention outcomes we need to end the HIV epidemic through this tool alone. As Dr. O’Byrne puts it, “We [need to] reach out to help people instead of people always having to look for help themselves.” Learn more in today's Research Spotlight at https://lnkd.in/eRpFyu3c

Earlier this month, UKHSA published 2023 data surrounding #HIV transmissions, diagnoses, and mortality, and the results were shocking. Despite the government’s commitments and actions towards ending all new HIV transmission by 2030, Black communities continue to be failed by the lack of targeted interventions. We know what works – why aren’t we invested in building and supporting the resources that will improve HIV-related #healthinequalities? Our path to 2030 means little if our communities continue to be left behind in the HIV response. We need strategic action now.

Today, on HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day, we honor the profound resilience of those who have lived with HIV for many years. Since the first official report of what became known as the AIDS epidemic on June 5, 1981, the journey for survivors has been filled with both challenges and triumphs. For instance, while more than 38 million people globally are living with HIV, advances in treatment mean many people can live long, healthy, full lives.
