In 1️⃣ Hour | Catch us at Resilience Week for our session, "The Future of #Transmission Expansion For #NationalDefense" to discuss how transmission #grid investment can deliver the electricity needed nationwide. 📅 Wednesday, 4 December, 11:30 AM CT, in Lone Star B. Panelists will draw from two influential transmission reports, both released in 2024: 1️⃣ “Transmission Expansion For National Defense” and 2️⃣ the “National Transmission Planning Study.”

As we continue to pursue zero emissions goals, we should be promoting ALL avenues that move us closer to that goal. Pushing the EV agenda at the expense of other promising technologies (hydrogen, for example) and paths to reduce emissions (renewable diesel, for example) is short sighted and inefficient. We can do better.
"Multiple analyses found that the amount of interregional transmission capacity would have to double or triple by 2035 to meet Biden’s goal." https://lnkd.in/eMBJN5Rr

The ESIG (Energy Systems Integration Group) released a great report on the importance of interregional transmission lines for grid resilience, given increasingly frequent extreme weather events and future load growth. "Interregional transmission facilitates a more resilient grid by increasing the availability of diverse energy sources to help serve load during critical periods. By prioritizing the expansion and enhancement of interregional connections, we can help ensure that the grid remains capable of meeting the emerging challenges of tomorrow." US government proposes 10 ‘national interest’ transmission corridors: Eight of the 10 transmission corridors proposed by the US Department of Energy (DoE) could facilitate transmission between grid regions. One would expand transmission within the Mid-Atlantic’s PJM grid region, and one would expand transmission in the Northern Plains. #GridsIntegration #Markets #UtilityScalePV

"FERC should do more to ensure that transmission planning is sufficiently robust and occurs quickly enough to meet the need and allocates costs to those who benefit from the infrastructure. America needs a grid to power America," says Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) Executive Director Christina Hayes in a new blog post. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/e2ZRUen7

NERC recommends adding 35,000 MW of interregional transmission capacity as "prudent additions" to address grid resiliency needs! Note that this assessment solely focuses on energy adequacy and the level of assistance likely available from neighboring regions during resiliency challenges, such as winter storms. The study does not, for example, consider: 1️⃣ Resilience support available from regions beyond the immediate neighbors (such as PJM's exports to SPP during winter storm Elliot). 2️⃣ A multi-value perspective that takes into account the added economic and public-policy benefits of interregional transmission, which often justify expanding interregional transmission beyond these NERC results (as DOE's National Transmission Planning Study has most recently shown). The decisions made on transmission planning this year will largely dictate the next decade of transmission buildout. Which means if one is interested in seeing more clean energy deployed, faster, this is the year to make it happen, with momentum on several fronts. Join us to learn more about the following: - How large energy customers are encouraging utilities to upgrade the existing grid using grid enhancing technologies and high performance conductors. - The status of regional compliance with FERC's new regional planning rule, Order 1920. - The connection between national security and the need for new interregional transmission. - The status of interregional planning between the Great Plains (SPP) and the Midwest (MISO), as well as the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic (PJM). Plus yet-to-be-announced keynote speakers and the state of play for energy storage integration.
We are excited to announce the release of the 2024 #ACOREGridForum agenda!⚡ The conference will feature sessions on #EnergyStorage integration, interregional #Transmission planning, #Grid innovations to meet America's growing power demand, and more. Join in on the discussion by securing your spot today. ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/ex4TN47v
