It's not uncommonly felt that the only way to have influence is through position power. But regardless of title, each of us have the ability to be a leader in the spheres we occupy. One of our guiding principles we repeatedly come back to is purpose-driven leadership. In this blog co-authored by Robin Anselmi and Roger Henderson, the program leaders for The Purposeful Leader, they share more about what it means and looks like to lead without authority. 📚 Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/gzgfWGq8 #thepurposefulleader #purpose #purposefulleadership #leadwithoutauthority #leadership #collaboration

🌟 Finding Common Ground: The Key to Effective Leadership 🌟 After watching the Presidential Debate on TV, I am convinced more now than ever that we are in desperate need of High Road Leaders! High Road Leaders excel at bridging differences and uniting people towards common goals and experiences. Here’s how you can achieve common ground in your leadership journey: 🔹 1. Seek to Connect : Truly understand different perspectives by actively listening without judgment. Show genuine interest in others’ viewpoints and validate their feelings. Find ways to connect to the heart before you ask for a hand. 🔹 2. Value Others: Identify common goals and values that everyone can rally around. Focus on these shared interests to create a sense of unity and purpose. Highlighting mutual benefits helps align everyone’s efforts towards a common objective. Don't just focus on what they say they want, try to seek out WHY they want it. 🔹 3. Communicate Transparently: Clear, honest, and transparent communication is vital. Share information openly and encourage others to do the same. Transparency reduces misunderstandings and fosters a culture of trust. Only say what you know to be true. Do not make promises you can't keep! 🔹 4. Be Flexible and Open-Minded: Be willing to adapt and compromise. Approach disagreements with an open mind and a willingness to find solutions that accommodate different needs and perspectives. Flexibility is key to finding mutually beneficial outcomes. Your perspective may not be the best or ONLY way. 🔹 5. Focus on Solutions, Not Problems: Shift the focus from what’s wrong to how you can collaboratively solve the issue. Encourage a solution-oriented mindset and work together to develop actionable plans that address everyone’s concerns. When you rightly identify the ROOT issue, you can then focus on real solutions. 🔹 6. Mediate Fairly: When conflicts arise, step in as a fair mediator. Listen to all sides impartially and work towards a resolution that respects everyone’s viewpoints. Fair mediation helps maintain harmony and reinforces a positive team culture. These are just a few ways to help develop common ground on your team and those in your circle. A great new resources that is practical and easy to apply is John Maxwell's book "High Road Leadership". This is one of the many resources I am certified to teach from and provide world-class content in speaking, training, and coaching. 👉 Who is a collaborative leader you've learned from or been mentored by on your leadership journey? ✨ Today, Lindsay Leahy shares one leader who demonstrated collaborative leadership in a way she has never forgotten. ✨ From Lindsay: "The first person who popped into my mind as a collaborative leader was someone who was my direct boss for just a short time but served as a mentor to me when I served in a new and expanded role inside of GreatAmerica, Jim Burns." "Jim demonstrated collaboration first by being real. He was honest, humble, and fun. Jim had a distinct personality and was just someone you want to spend time with. He made me feel very comfortable asking questions and admitting what I didn't know. " "Instead of giving me answers or directives, Jim invested time to help evolve my thinking. He asked great questions, reflected my good ideas back to me, offered me new perspectives, and empowered me to make decisions. He also allowed me to deal with the consequences of my choices and learn from my mistakes - which is so hard for leaders to do but really helped accelerate my growth." "What I appreciated most about Jim was the way he worked hard to get information into the hands of all of us who were closer to the frontline so we could make solid, informed decisions. This allowed us to grow, develop and execute well and quickly. He was always there to coach and support, and point us back to the overall vision, mission, values and key metrics. " 👉 Who is a collaborative leader you'd like to recognize for their impact on your life? Tag them in the comments or send them a quick note of thanks on your own in honor of the impression they've made.
