From 31st March 2025, under the Government’s new Simpler Recycling regulations, schools, hospitals and businesses with 10 or more full-time equivalent employees are required to separate dry mixed recyclables, glass, and food from their general waste. Businesses with fewer than 10 employees (FTE) have until March 2027 to comply. 🔸 What are your responsibilities? It is your responsibility as the waste producer to identify if you produce any of the affected waste streams. You must ensure a separate collection service is introduced and that your Annual Duty of Care document reflects the separated waste streams. Core Facility Services are here to support you with these changes. Call our waste experts on 01422 880180 and we can carry out a free waste audit and find opportunities for better recycling and recovery rates. #wastemanagement #recycling #recyclingregulations

With Simpler Recycling on the way, Local Authorities across England need to be ready for the changes to the way residual waste and recyclables will be collected. If you’re looking for an experienced partner to help you prepare for Simpler Recycling, look no further than Alfred H Knight. Alfred H Knight has carried out waste analysis projects for County Councils, Waste Partnerships, boroughs, districts and unitary authorities to determine the composition of their waste streams with accuracy and reliability. Through waste composition analysis of household waste streams, we assess the varying types of waste being deposited into bins to determine the success of a Local Authority’s current collection schemes and for future operational modelling. With this evidence, councils can justify the changes necessary to improve collections and operations. Interested in learning how waste composition analysis from Alfred H Knight could support your organisation? If so, follow the link in the comments below and get in touch with one of our experts today. #simplerrecycling #waste #recycling #wastemanagement

All you need to know about the upcoming English Regulation Changes due in March/April 2025 👇 Who’s affected? • All non-household municipal premises in England (such as businesses, schools, and hospitals) What are the required waste streams? • Food Waste • Dry Mixed Recyclables • General Waste What’s our opinion on this? We believe that the Dry Mixed Recyclables waste stream should be broken down into simpler, more specific categories (plastic, cans, glass, etc.) to make recycling less confusing and more effective. With that said, we don’t think this regulation change will drive the right levels of engagement and behaviour to create clean recyclable waste and drive down contamination/general waste. I was watching BBC's One Show on Tuesday, and a segment about fires in waste caught my attention. It’s an issue I’ve seen firsthand during my years in waste management, and it’s only getting worse. Every year, about 700 fires in dustcarts and recycling centres are caused by lithium-ion batteries thrown in household rubbish. These batteries—found in everything from phones to toothbrushes—can explode when damaged or crushed. The cost? £158m annually to fire services and waste operators. The risk comes from “hidden batteries” in everyday items, often thrown away without a second thought. When these are crushed or compacted alongside flammable materials like paper or plastic, the results can be devastating. This is why education and proper disposal are key. Local recycling points, supermarkets, and waste centres have facilities for batteries and electronics. It’s a small step with a big impact. Let’s all do our part to reduce these preventable fires. If you’re in doubt about where to recycle, check tools like Material Focus or ask your local council.Together, we can make waste management safer for everyone. #BBC #OneShow #education

🚨 Battery Recycling Warning: Lorry Fire Caused by Improper Disposal of Vapes 🚨 At Vantage Waste Solutions, we want to emphasize the critical importance of proper battery disposal. Recently, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded to a severe fire in Powys, where a large goods vehicle carrying general recycling waste was engulfed in flames. The likely cause? Improperly disposed disposable vapes. Batteries, including those found in vapes, can become highly dangerous if not handled correctly. When mixed with general waste, they can overheat, ignite, and lead to destructive fires, putting lives and property at risk. This incident underscores the need for vigilance in how we recycle these items. We urge everyone to take the following steps: Separate batteries and electronic devices from your general waste. Use designated recycling points specifically for batteries and vapes. Never dispose of batteries or vapes in your household recycling bins. At Vantage Waste Solutions, we offer dedicated recycling services for vapes and batteries to ensure they are disposed of safely and responsibly. By choosing to recycle your vapes with us, you help prevent dangerous incidents like this and contribute to a more sustainable future. Let's work together to keep our communities safe. Recycle your vapes and batteries with Vantage Waste Solutions today! ♻️ https://lnkd.in/dHbJvVw4 #RecyclingSafety #WasteManagement #BatteryRecycling #VapeRecycling #FirePrevention #Sustainability #VantageWasteSolutions

Look at all these hard-to-recycle products that won't end up in the landfill! CIRT CXO, Jennifer Davidson makes it habit to collect hard-to-recycle items throughout the month and make a monthly Athens Clarke County Solid Waste CHaRM run. CHaRM stands for Center for Hard to Recycle Materials. It's a simple practice that can make a significant impact on waste reduction. Instead of sending items to landfills, CHaRM accepts materials that typically can't go in your regular recycling bin - from electronics and batteries to textiles and cooking oil. Everyone there is so helpful and friendly. This facility's commitment to education is impressive. Each drop-off is an opportunity to learn about the recycling process and understand the true lifecycle of our everyday items.
