This World Food Day 2024, under the theme "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future," we are reminded of the fundamental right of every individual regardless of location or circumstance to access safe and nutritious food. Food is essential not just for survival but for leading a healthy, active, and fulfilling life. For us in the Caribbean, this message holds even greater significance. As island nations heavily dependent on imported food and vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, we face unique challenges. Climate-related disruptions such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts frequently threaten our agricultural output and food security. As small island states, we need to prioritize sustainable farming practices that protect our natural resources and enable us to feed our people. This means building resilient local food systems that can withstand the impacts of climate change and reduce our reliance on imports.
