If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well. And if you’re doing it well, how can you do it better? Think on this as you sip your wine tonight. You probably started your wine drinking career as a youngster with the cheapest plonk and as you have got older, your palate has steadily improved. At the same time, your curiosity has increased, seeking out wines from lesser known areas, and as you have got ever more sophisticated, perhaps lesser known vineyards from the more well known areas. So you’re doing well with your appreciation of fine wine, but can you do better? Perhaps a tour of a vineyard, see the grapes on the vine, and then look on at the maturation, blending and bottling process, and then of course onto the tasting. It may be the same wine in the same bottle that you buy from your supermarket, but it just seems to taste better when you’re drinking it in the vineyard from which it emanates. Scientifically there is probably no difference, but taste is an emotional experience. So now you’re doing very well, but can you do better? Yes. You could join me at the Quinta Da Pacheca in the Douro Valley in the harvest time. You can pick the grapes. You can stomp the grapes. And of course you can taste the wine. It’s not wine from grapes that you have just stomped, of course, but you are now part of the story of wine from Quinta Da Pacheca, a story going back to the 16th Century, producing some of Portugal’s (and the world’s) finest wines and a leader when it comes to wine tourism. Just to round off the whole experience, your hotel room can be a converted wine barrel, with great views, romance wafting up the slopes with the morning mist, and a wonderful breakfast waiting for you. If you got a little carried away with your stomping, there is an excellent spa to soothe any aching muscles. And just as you have become part of the Quinta Da Pacheca history, so too does the vineyard become part of your story. This is now your wine. Are you just going to drink that wine tonight or can you do better? #wine #douro #travel #notjusttravel

Ever been to a wine tasting? I personally don’t drink alcohol, but I do recognise the appeal of sitting together with great company in a pleasant setting and enjoying a glass of wine. Especially if it’s local Lanzarote wine. That’s why we offer private, fully accessible wine tastings for our holiday guests. A wine tasting day with LanzAbility begins with my team and I picking you up in one of our adapted vehicles. Since drinking alone is usually somewhat frowned upon, we offer private wine tastings for a minimum of two people—the more, the merrier. Our first stop: the vineyards, where the local farmers still grow grapes the traditional Lanzarote way. Next: we’ll visit two or three wheelchair-accessible local bodegas that are not typical tourist hotspots. While enjoying the traditional Canarian atmosphere and stunning views, you’ll get to sample up to ten different local Lanzarote wines. Let’s not forget about the food: typically, our local bodegas also offer various delicious tapas to accompany your glass of wine. Often, people come as strangers and end the day with great conversations, lots of laughter, and even new friendships. That’s what this experience is truly about. 🍇🍷🧑🏻🦽 #winetasting #localLanzarotewine #disability #adaptedactivities #LanzAbility

✊️ The Amber Revolution is not dead yet! 🍊 It's been 10 years now that Orange Wines took over the wine lists all over the World: 🎷 A funky mix between traditional winemaking methods and the new wave of byodinamic philosophy, Orange Wines became a must between wine -lovers and wine-hipsters! 🍇 The freshness of white wine with the body of a red, and a lot of personality: sometimes elegant, sometimes rough, but unusual and unforgettable for sure. 🇬🇪 From Georgia to 🇮🇹 Carso and Collio, from 🇬🇷 Greece to the inner Mediterranean, this style is widely produced and appreciated. 🗺 There are quite few wineries specialized in Orange Wines only, with more then 40 years of experience: most of them are now a real cult for the wine lovers (and the wine traders), and their bottles are very hard to purchase due to the low quantities (and high prices sometimes). 🌟 But, despite been loved and having a well deserved place in a lot of starred restaurants, it's very hard to find them in the classic fine dining venues around the World, included a lot of 3stars awarded temples of cuisine, excluded and snobbed by the luxurious world of wines. 🤔 What are the reasons, for you? 🍊 Do you like Orange Wines? ✊️ Is it just a trend, or the Amber Revolution is still on? 📸 Nur, La Distesa, Cupramontana, Italy. #sommelier #winelovers #sommlife #orangewines #finedining #wine #expectations #wondering #Revolution

A great wine list is a necessary component to a great food & beverage program! Catalonia is a vibrant and diverse region in northeastern Spain, and is renowned for its wide array of distinctive wines, reflecting its varied terrain from coastal areas to rugged hills. The region is most famous for Cava, the sparkling wine produced using the traditional method, primarily in the Penedès area, which provides a refreshing and complex alternative to its French cousin, Champagne. Catalonia also excels in producing robust red wines, particularly from the Priorat and Montsant appellations, where old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena thrive on the unique llicorella (slate) soils, creating intensely flavored and mineral-rich wines. Additionally, the Empordà on the Costa Brava and the Terra Alta regions contribute with their expressive white wines made from varieties like Garnatxa Blanca and Macabeo. These Catalan wines, whether sparkling, red, or white, are increasingly gaining international acclaim for their quality and unique character, driven by a blend of traditional practices and innovative modern techniques. ➡ www.somm.site #wine #education #training #learning #growth #innovation #hospitality #tourism #hospitalityindustry #management #marketing #digitalmarketing

Whether you're a fan of the bold Cabernets of Napa Valley, the elegant Pinot Noirs of Carneros, or the vibrant Chardonnays of the Central Coast, California's wine regions have something to satisfy every palate. But California isn't just about the classics. It's a hotbed of innovation and experimentation, where winemakers are continually pushing the boundaries to explore new possibilities. This spirit of creativity extends to lesser-known grape varieties, offering wine lovers a chance to taste the unexpected. 🍇Among these, Albarino has found a new home in California, bringing a fresh, aromatic twist to the state's wine scene. Alongside Albarino, other exciting varieties like Vermentino, Gruner Veltliner, and Chenin Blanc are being cultivated, showcasing the region's versatility and adventurous spirit. For those planning a visit, California's wine country isn't just about the wines. It's about the full experience - gourmet dining, beautiful vineyards, charming towns, and a vibrant cultural scene. As Steve Martin yelled, "The new phone book is here!" In my case, it's the latest issue of SOMM Journal, publishing my usual Bottom Line column. This time around, on how small, smart, focused, food-centric wines lists should be considered just as prestigious as gigantic ones that lists wines just for the sake of having them listed or winning "grand" awards. Now more than ever, makes sense for restaurants, aspiring sommeliers (who want to keep their jobs) and, most importantly, guests. #restaurantlife #restaurantwine #sommelierlife #sommjournal #winelist #hospitalityindustry #HospitalityManagement #sommelierbusiness #sommelierdreams #winelist #foodandbeverage #foodandbeverageindustry
