In our series on impactful projects that the CASE Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is leading, today we highlight the WinDTwin project! 🌍💨 WINDTWIN is pioneering a digital twin of offshore wind farms to improve the prediction of energy demand and enhance the efficiency of wind energy production. Using advanced technologies like the BSC's MareNostrum 5 supercomputer, WinDTwin will develop high-precision spatial models, tackling inefficiencies and exploring hybrid ecological solutions in renewable energy. 🌊⚙️ With support from the European Union, this initiative unites a consortium of 13 entities across 7 countries, pooling expertise in wind energy production, industrial methods, and predictive modeling. Our CEO Cristina Alves Robinson will be attending the Energy Tech Summit (ETS) in Bilbao next week. She will be looking to engage Europe in what should be an exciting year for Excipio. Besides our core Excibuoy integrated platform, we now have a new patented Enhanced Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (E-OTEC) which is the first major technical advance in that 100 year old technology since the 1960's. We have cut the projected LCOE of this 24/7 continuous power source down to the levels of offshore fixed wind and can put more than 100MW on a single small platform. We recently completed a process model and study for Shell Marine Renewable Energy group and it confirmed the concept as a success.
