Memorial Day weekend could see slightly higher spending this year than last. That’s according to market research firm Numerator’s survey of over 5,500 consumers, which found that 68% of Memorial Day shoppers plan to spend under $100 on their holiday supplies, and nearly a quarter (23%) expect to spend more this year than they did last year. #consumerinsights #retailsales #memorialday

Sweet Blooms & Chocolate Dreams: Creating the Perfect Mother's Day. Consumers are spoilt for choice when choosing gifts for the event, with promotions across multiple categories. Gifting drove Mother's day sales in 2024. Let's not forget that Mother's day fell on the 19th March last year when we had a double bank holiday weekend for St Patrick's day. This year it was more of a stand alone event and Grocery sales out-performed in value and volume compared to year to date. Next year Mother's day falls on the 30th March when the weather may be slightly better allowing for more opportunity for alfresco dining thereby boosting food & drink sales. Also let's not forget opportunities for personal care/health & beauty categories with the increased motivation of selfcare and for Mother's and others to treat themselves there is huge potential in this space for affordable treats. #NIQ #Insights #Consumer

The economics of Memorial Day The unofficial start of #summer and a reason for retailers to offer mega-deals (a more serious post will follow tomorrow)... ▪️57% of Americans plan to celebrate (Numerator) ▪️AAA predicts the second highest #travel forecast for Memorial Day since 2000 with 43.8 million people traveling ▪️Food and alcoholic #beverages are the top 2 categories on shopping lists ▪️Beer is the top choice for alcoholic beverages at 76% (those planning to buy alcohol) ▪️Gen Z is twice as likely to choose hard seltzers or canned cocktails (88% vs. 35% avg) while Boomers are more likely to choose wine (51% vs. 42% avg) #Food and #beer prices although starting to stabilize are still up from last year: 🥩Steaks have increased in price 6.5% YoY 🍔Ground beef increased in price 6% YoY 🌭Hot dogs increased in price 7.1% YoY 🍻Beer prices increased in price 3% YoY Later today my husband and I will be taking a trip to Costco Wholesale to shop for the #BBQ we will be hosting. People are questioning and expecting more from the brands they shop from.
