Tomorrow's webinar will be a really great insight on glass. While the presentation title indicates mordernist architecture, it really is applicable to all glass! Modernist architecture is when we start to see really large format glass, which is heavily utilized in today's architecture.
Last chance to register for tomorrow's webinar on the conservation of glass in modernist architecture! Engineers Martina Driscoll, PE and Mark Schmidt, architect Bryan Rouse, AIA, NCARB, and historic preservationist Rebecca Wong will examine the glass elements of modernist buildings and, through project case studies, will discuss the tradeoffs between increased performance (including aesthetics and durability) and historic preservation. Attendees are eligible for 1 HSW Learning Unit. Learn more and register now: https://ow.ly/ecbl50SQhCG

In the world of architecture, character is the silent storyteller.
💬 Character is the language that buildings speak. 🎬 We asked Isabel Allen, Editor of Architecture Today; Carlo Castelli, the Director from Urban Purpose; Amy Frearson, Editor and moderator of our London Landing event; Harald Hübl, Co-founder of greenturtle gmbh; Rumi Bose, regeneration consultant of the Royal Borough of Greenwich; and Ben Cross, Development Director from General Projects just what does character mean? 📖 Our Conversation on Character continues in our monograph, here: https://lnkd.in/d_undyBi Video: Corry Raymond Venue: Barbican Centre #londonlanding #chybikkristof #craftingcharacter #conversation #dialogue #architecture #urbanism #design

World Architecture Day 2024 highlights urban issues, promotes the construction of more sustainable and equitable cities for everyone. Every year on the first Monday of October, World Architecture Day emphasises architecture's strategic impact in creating our surroundings. Organised by the International Union of Architects (UIA), since 1986, the congress aims to stimulate dialogue on architectural innovation and the accompanying demands faced by today's architects. The theme for this year is “Empowering the Next Generation to Participate in Urban Design,” which calls to embrace urban design that will benefit generations to come. It emphasises the contributions of young architects in creating sustainable, inclusive cities that meet the diverse needs of today's society. #MadamArchitect #WorldArchitectureDay #2024

How can architecture and art drive solutions in our cities? This question was recently explored at BLOXHUB where Madeleine Kate McGowan represented the Garden Caretaker project. Inspired by the White Paper on the New European Bauhaus Economy by Dark Matter Labs, the discussion highlighted how art and architecture can help us reconnect with nature. The Garden Caretaker exemplifies this concept, serving as a bridge between urban living and the existing ecosystem. Read more on the potential of art and the garden caretaker in driving solutions in the cities in this article: https://lnkd.in/dWTB4F3n

What is the role of historic preservation in modern architecture and urban planning? How do we balance the need to conserve cultural heritage with the demand for new development, especially in urban areas? I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the integration of traditional architectural elements within contemporary designs and how these can coexist harmoniously in our cities.

In this year's edition of SHIFT, we’re delving into Urban Metabolism, a concept that views cities as living systems where resources circulate in cycles, much like in nature. By rethinking how materials and energy flow through urban spaces, we can design adaptable, resilient environments that minimize waste and maximize resource use. This approach focuses on reusing existing structures and designing new elements with future adaptability in mind. Park Associati is curating the second edition of SHIFT, an International Seminar on Architecture and Sustainability, organized by Casa da Arquitectura in Porto and supported by the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment and Energy República Portuguesa - XXIV Governo. Save the date! “The Future of Adaptive Architecture” SHIFT, 22-23 November Casa da Arquitectura, Porto More info here: https://lnkd.in/excPmfBH video by Nicola Colella editing by Park Associati #SHIFT #UrbanMetabolism #SustainableArchitecture #ArchitectureForChange #AdaptiveReuse #CircularDesign #ParkAssociati #Sustainability #UrbanResilience
