It will be very interesting to see how NHTSA moves forward on vehicle safety regulation and consumer awareness efforts especially driverless vehicles with the upcoming Trump administration priorities.

Good to see NHTSA update their program which could be instrumental in driving (pardon an awful pun) improvements to consumer driving safety. It’s illustrative industry safety organizations (eg IIHS) are able to move far quicker than governments (for obvious reasons). Key is educating consumers as to the consequences of their choices (or non choices) on selecting a vehicle with these safety features - much more could be done in this area.

Speeding remains a significant issue, contributing to nearly a third of motor vehicle fatalities for over two decades, with 29% of traffic fatalities in 2022 involving speeding. Driving too fast for conditions, such as in bad weather or poorly lit areas, endangers everyone on the road. The consequences of speeding include increased crash severity, higher economic costs, and greater fuel consumption. Factors driving speeding include traffic congestion, running late, anonymity, and disregard for others and the law. To address this, NHTSA collaborates with various organizations to implement speed management programs and enforcement measures. These faulty inflators, often made overseas, have led to three deaths and two severe injuries in the past year.
