Exciting news for the renewable energy sector! The #GreenVolt floating offshore wind farm, developed by Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn, has been granted full onshore planning approval. This project will use up to 35 floating wind turbines to deliver up to 560 MW of renewable energy while replacing power currently generated by gas and diesel turbines. It's an exciting development that has significant implications for the future of energy production in the UK and beyond. Projects like the #GreenVolt wind farm demonstrate the potential of renewable energy to not only reduce our carbon footprint but also provide reliable, cost-effective energy to meet the needs of communities and industries. This project is a great example of how the UK and Europe can lead the way in the rapidly growing global market for floating offshore wind. Offshore wind farm construction is an intricate operation involving many different stakeholders, technologies, and environmental concerns. Consequently, offshore wind energy has become an increasingly important part of global renewable energy strategies due to the availability of stronger and more regular winds at sea. Construction of such enormous facilities requires special engineering, logistical coordination, and careful planning, and there are a myriad of uncertainties and hazards. This article mainly focuses on explaining the process phases of offshore wind farm construction, identifying important participants in the process, challenges faced during each stage, and uncertainties that may influence the successful completion of the project. Offshore Update: Equinor, Ørsted Sign New Empire Wind 1, Sunrise Wind Contracts with New York State The weighted average all-in development cost of the two awarded offshore wind projects over the life of the contracts is USD 150.15/MWh (approx. EUR 138/MWh). The 810 MW Empire Wind 1 is already moving towards the construction phase as Equinor received final approval. Ørsted's Sunrise Wind has 924 MW. This value of EUR 138/MWh is higher than EUR 86.45 per MWh, value that the consortium between Belgium-based Elicio and BayWa r.e. has won the AO5 tender in France to develop and operate the country's first floating offshore wind farm, the 250 MW Pennavel project. On the other hand in this fourth solicitation by NYSERDA only european companies have won the tender... US companies are not winning any in their own soil, I mean sea... Germany’s largest offshore wind farm has had the transition pieces loaded out – a remarkable feat given there are 64 of them and they weigh 660 tons each. He Dreiht – which means ‘it spins’ in German – will generate 960MW of electricity at a cost of €2.4 billion, and owner EnBW says it will be built without funding from the taxpayer. EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, says CEO Georg Nikolaus Stamatelopoulos, intends to spend €40 billion on ‘the energy transition’ by 2030, most of it in Germany. “We are investing around €13 billion alone in constructing wind farms and solar parks as well as flexibly controllable and hydrogen-ready gas power plants,” he said. “After seven years of intensive planning, we are now able to start construction work,” said Peter Heydecker, board member for Sustainable Generation Infrastructure. ”The successful development of a project on this scale once again demonstrates the ability of our offshore team to realise cost-efficient offshore wind projects in Germany and Europe. “The expansion of offshore wind energy is an important part of our ongoing strategy to considerably increase our installed renewable capacity from 5.7GW to 10 to 11.5GW by 2030.” More than 60 vessels will be involved in the building of He Dreiht, which is 85km northwest of Borkum and 110km west of Helgoland, EnBW says. Now that the transition pieces have arrived at nearby Eemshaven, which was done by Belgian engineering and construction firm Smulders, they will be towed out to the site by tugs and be installed with the monopiles this summer. The 15MW turbines are scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2025. Keep up to date with the latest industry news on Maritime Journal; https://lnkd.in/eZjEAfak

We are thrilled to share that we have secured a four-year contract extension with Vattenfall. This new agreement expands our scope of work to include remotely operated vehicle (ROV) inspection services to support Below Water Balance of Plant (BOP) for the Thanet, Kentish Flats, and Kentish Flats Extension wind farms. These additions complement the ongoing services we provide at the Aberdeen and Ormonde offshore wind farms. Alex Clark said: “Following five years of successful partnership, this contract expansion is a testament to the high standards our team of inspection, survey and maintenance experts continually deliver.” Thank you to reNEWS - Renewable Energy News for sharing our news. Europe’s First Commercial-Scale Floating Offshore Wind Farm Secures All Planning Approvals Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn, a joint venture between Plenitude (Eni) and HitecVision, have obtained the offshore planning approval for the Green Volt floating wind farm offshore Scotland. With onshore consent announced earlier this month, Green Volt has now received all its planning approvals and remains on track to be the first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm in Europe. When completed, Green Volt will include up to 35 floating wind turbines, providing up to 560 MW of renewable energy capacity. As part of Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil & Gas (INTOG) leasing round, the project will deliver renewable electricity to oil and gas platforms, replacing existing natural gas and diesel power generation. Green Volt will also provide electricity to the UK grid. Green Volt, 50 per cent owned by Flotation Energy and 50 percent by Vårgrønn, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1 million tonnes per annum. #offshore #floatingoffshore #socsea24 #maritimeconnection https://lnkd.in/ezrtN8gQ

The global floating offshore wind project pipeline has expanded by 9% year-on-year in the past 12 months, reaching 266 GW, according to a report published today by RenewableUK. RenewableUK’s CEO Dan McGrail said: “It’s great to see the UK maintaining its position as a world leader in floating wind, but in an increasingly competitive global market the industry will now have to work even harder with the Government to ensure that we ramp up the amount of floating capacity we secure in each annual auction from now on to maintain our advantage."
