I'm excited about this event, for a number of reasons: #1 Floating wind is something the UK could and should be highly competitive at delivering. We have plenty of highly commutable experience from North Sea O&G, and the room and need to build out a large portfolio. How are we going to do it? I was trying to supervise a Site Investigation (if that was ever possible) done by the the Seacore drillers on the Skate 2D, but it mostly consisted of waiting for better weather. The offshore wind Industrial Growth Plan published today indicates that there will be a big focus on offshore wind as part of the UK’s renewable energy transition. The plan expects a tripling in the current offshore wind manufacturing capacity, with estimates suggesting that this could bring opportunities in the UK wind sector worth up to £96bn by 2040. It is an ambitious plan, and one which should bring opportunities for businesses throughout the supply chain for these projects.
