Consider a profession in pharmacy and enroll in Shri Ram Pharmacy College - here are eight good reasons to do so. ## Heal With Precise Medication Knowledge Expertise in pharmaceuticals, including their side effects, interactions, and correct dosing, is possessed by pharmacists. Students are adequately prepared to give accurate pharmaceutical information thanks to the rigorous pharmacology instruction they receive at Shri Ram Pharmacy College. Improving patient health outcomes and optimizing treatment approaches both require this level of expertise. To my pharmacist colleagues and friends, especially those who are not currently in direct patient care roles, I wanted to share a pretty big proposed change to APPE requirements coming down from ACPE, the accrediting body for US pharmacy schools. The proposal is to limit the total amount of non-direct patient care APPE rotations to 320 hours, or 8 weeks. My patient care experiences were an essential part of my training, and I leverage them every day in my work in industry. They are a huge part of why I have the job I have. But another important part is that I was fortunate to have 16 weeks (640 hours) of non-direct patient care rotations: 12 weeks at J&J, and 4 at FDA. My first role with J&J was offered to me as a direct result of the meaningful work I was able to accomplish during that 12 week rotation, and while my time at FDA didn't land me a job, it was certainly well spent. I now help oversee the 12 week rotation that was an essential opportunity for me. This proposed change from ACPE would likely bring it and a lot of rotations like it to an end, and it would severely restrict the opportunities of students to explore non-direct patient care career paths prior to graduation. Fortunately, this change to standard 3.2e is in an open comment period until May 15 (there are a lot of other changes worth noting - international rotations are getting limited as well). I urge you to share your own experiences and feedback with ACPE per their instructions below: At its January 2024 meeting, the ACPE Board of Directors approved releasing drafts of Standard 2025 and the corresponding self-study rubric. The ACPE Board also authorized a period of comment on the draft standards that began January 26 and will conclude May 15, 2024. Comments can be submitted using the survey found here. Additionally a series of town hall meetings will be held with various constituencies for further comment and feedback. Information giving as a second year pharmacy student. This was my first attempt at a full consultation 🩺💊 The aim of this consultation was to give the patient counselling advice as well as the instructions to do with their new medication. Patient was on Risedronate which is used to prevent conditions like Osteoporosis. I as the, “pharmacist” needed to inform my patient on how to take it, what it’s for as well as mentioning the side effects. During this video, I was actually being observed by my academic tutor who was in the back. Feedback included: ~ Really good rapport building throughout ~ Good advice and checking with patient ~ Active listening and delivering the important information Improvements that could be made were: ~ Timing, important to be concise ~ Chunk and check, summarise each part of consultation throughout ~ Shared agenda with patient, prior to consultation what concerns do they have, what do they need/ want? It’s time to meet another member of the MAPflow team! Say hello to Dr. Kenny Chong, PharmD, MHI, RPh, our Director of Clinical Innovation. Dr. Chong has 15 years of experience practicing in and managing a community pharmacy. He also has a wealth of experience in education, having served as a Clinical Lecturer and Course Coordinator at the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. He has taught several minor ailments and self-care courses, and has also developed and reviewed CCCEP-accredited, continuing education modules. Dr. Chong is committed to developing the tools needed to advance community pharmacy practice. Get to know Dr. Chong a bit better with this mini Q & A! Providing a new service can be intimidating, but follow-up consultations can help boost your confidence by giving you feedback on your abilities and acting as a “safety net” to ensure the best outcomes for your patients. Q: What are your favourite things to do when you’re not working?⁠ KC: I like to keep active. 📣Calling all PharmD students Back in January, I started a pilot program for pre-pharmacy and PharmD students. The goal of this program is to equip students with support, skills, and impactful projects that will help them ✨thrive✨ as they continue on their pharmacy journey. 💊The impactful projects that they work on are geared toward serving other pharmacy students. Three of the students within the program created a survey to understand the needs of current pharmacy students so that we (Learn With Libby LLC) can serve them better. 💻This 10-question survey is anonymous and confidential so feel free to be as real and raw as you would like.
