📢 "Sharing is caring" – and now it's time to put that into practice by sharing something I have been part of! I recently had the chance to contribute to the project "Nordic Added Value and Vision 2030” by the University of Helsinki, exploring the conceptualisation of Nordic added value (nordisk nytta / nordiskt mervärde) across the work of The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council and its subordinate institutions. I was invited to join the project due to my master's thesis, which focused on Nordic added value in the social and health sector (you can read it here: https://lnkd.in/dteNJihG!). It's been an interesting and fruitful journey, culminating in the report "Nordic Added Value in Inter-ministerial Nordic Co-operation: Past and Present Perspectives," which can be found here: https://lnkd.in/d_vmJxvn 🤝 Many thanks to our great project team (Frederik Forrai Ørskov, Tuire Liimatainen, Hasan Akıntuğ, Peter Stadius and Essi Turva) for the excellent work and cooperation throughout the project! World Post Day - 9 October Innovation, Integration and Inclusion World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services. In 2015 countries all over the world committed themselves to working together towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to end extreme poverty and hunger, fight inequality and injustice, and take action to reverse climate change - to name just some of these 17 agreed new Goals. Playing its part in this global effort, the Post today has a more relevant role than ever by providing infrastructure for development.   2024 theme: 150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nation In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrates its 150th anniversary.  With the theme “150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations,” this year’s World Post Day recognizes the UPU’s longstanding achievements and reinforces its commitment to serve all peoples for the decades and centuries to come. 🔛 Change of routes… For some time I have been of the opinion that work determines too much of the person we are. Recognition we receive and give in the society is often work-related. Someone has new job accomplishments, recruits and merits etc. Personal development is often associated with job milestones. As a result it easily builds a twisted perception of who we are and where the true value lies with us. I guess this is partly so because society highlights specific expertise and it takes an effort to achieve that. This might come at a cost of less attention on other values what being a human involves. We could take it easier with job determination 💪 We, humans, have the ultimate potential for care and love - value from community work, charity, caring for others. We are passionate creators - creating not only for money but value for welfare, beauty and soul. There should be more time and praise for these values.   🙄 And yet, here I am, leaving my beloved job and wishing for new personal …work developments:) But hoping to express more and more of these universal human values along the way and not to identify with job too much:)   It has been true joy and priviledge to work for #Nordicsustainability co-operation towards Estonia and the Baltics. I am so grateful for this flexibility and trust to take on diverse roles and initiatives during this time. #cleanenergy, #circulareconomy, #bioeconomy, #wastemanagement, #smartecocities in the form of R&D, networks, conferences, experiments, pilots, podcasts etc. Heartfelt thanks to all the smart and lovely people around me on this leg of my doings. Iceland receives WHO award for leadership in advancing a well-being economy WHO/Europe has presented the prestigious WHO Regional Director for Europe's Award to the Icelandic Government for its leadership in advancing a well-being economy both in Iceland and around the world. This recognition cements the longstanding partnership between Iceland and the WHO European Well-being Economy Initiative, which has been leading the way in redesigning the economy for more resilient and healthier societies that leave no one behind. This morning, we hosted another inspiring #TopFloorTalk event, featuring keynote speaker Brian Mikkelsen, CEO of Dansk Erhverv, who shared his vision on "How to make Denmark the best place to do business and live." Susanne Gildberg welcomed our guests on a sunny morning, kicking off the event by emphasizing how leaders must balance safeguarding businesses from insider risks while fostering trust and autonomy - key drivers of innovation and resilience. In his keynote, Brian Mikkelsen highlighted: ❇️ Welfare depends on prosperity. Strengthening Denmark's business environment is crucial for securing future welfare. Competitive conditions are the foundation for continued growth. ❇️ Demographic challenges will increase labor shortages. We must break down barriers to international recruitment to fill critical gaps. ❇️ Digitalization and AI are essential to boosting productivity. Denmark needs to regain its momentum in these areas to remain competitive. ❇️ Accelerating the green transition: European businesses are paying much higher energy prices compared to their American and Chinese counterparts. To boost our competitiveness, Denmark needs to focus on increasing green energy, improving energy efficiency, and speeding up electrification across industries. Together, these insights provide a clear path for Denmark to continue thriving as a top destination for both business and quality of life. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to explore the potential of wellbeing economies, post-growth ideas, and innovative approaches to sustainability. Highlights included: ✨ An interactive session on wellbeing economies hosted by Tuuli Hirvilammi and Milena Buchs, with thought-provoking discussions on the challenges and opportunities of a post-growth approach. 💡 Dan O’Neill led a session on "Imagining Post-Growth, Science, Technology, and Innovation Futures," while Riina Bhatia explored "Challenging Dominant Values and Ideologies." 📊 ToBe researchers shared their insights on topics like eco-social policy, universal basic services, and transformative policymaking across Europe. Denmark and Sweden are again the top innovation countries in the EU! 🔝 Each year, the European Innovation Scoreboard publishes a ranking of the most innovative countries in the EU. In 2023, Denmark took the pole position, followed by Sweden in 2nd place. Both countries score specifically high on the performance index category “Human Resources”. 👥 For Denmark, the opportunity for lifelong learning and development was highlighted as one of the strongest assets. Sweden scored notably well in the category “Population with tertiary education”, indicating that both countries are top-notch locations for students and working professionals equally.
