Eurydice Fragments: Auditions Open Call Be part of a contemporary performance that fuses opera with modern technology. Through an immersive exploration of our digital and carbon existences, the performance dissolves the binaries we are bound to from birth until death, and strums the threads between heaven and hell, male and female, maker and muse, performer and audience. I recently had the privilege of attending the “The Color of Surveillance: Surveillance & Resistance” conference, hosted by the Georgetown Law Center on Privacy and Technology. Thank you to Georgetown University and the organizers for curating such a powerful and thought-provoking event. Conferences like these spotlight critical issues and connect people and communities dedicated to justice. One of the most memorable moments for me was the interactive poetry session led by Sunu Chandi and Michael Colonese. Reflecting on experiences with strangers and turning those into poetry was deeply moving. It was a reminder of how art transcends barriers and creates “heart spaces” where solidarity thrives. In an era increasingly defined by surveillance and control, humanizing resistance through art feels more important than ever. The grassroots resistance stories shared at the conference were equally powerful. I was particularly struck by: • David, a refugee who shared his journey of resilience in the face of systemic surveillance. • Rami, who exposed the intersection of militarization and digital surveillance in Palestine. Their experiences underscored the critical role of community mobilization and grassroots action in fighting oppressive systems. What resonated most was the global scale of these challenges—whether it’s AI in border control, state-sponsored hacking in the Gulf, or the commercialization of surveillance technology. These stories remind us that collaborative resistance and international solidarity are essential. By amplifying voices, sharing resources, and building connections across borders, we can counter these pervasive systems of control. This event inspired me to reflect on how we, as individuals and professionals, can contribute to the collective fight against surveillance. Whether through advocacy, art, or grassroots organizing, every effort counts. For those who couldn’t attend, I encourage you to explore the work of the Georgetown Law Center on Privacy and Technology and connect with organizations and individuals in this space. We can build networks that resist oppression and champion equity and justice. If you also attended the event, I’d love to hear your reflections. And if you’re working in privacy, technology, or human rights, let’s connect—I’m eager to learn from your experiences and continue this important conversation. #SurveillanceResistance #GrassrootsAction #PrivacyRights #GeorgetownLaw #HumanRightsNetworking

Here’s some of the dumbest uses of American tax dollars 😂 😂 1. $660,000 to study the impact that COVID had on Russian women. 2. $350,000 to develop AI smart toilets. 3. $750,000 for the New York Metropolitan Opera fire alarm. 4. $30,000 to study the secret language of butchers in Paris. 5. $20,000 to drag shows in Ecuador. Is this just the tip of the tip of the iceberg?

Friday Arts … the world is still not improving, so let’s keep talking about other things that are more fun! Springboard Opera had its first night out last weekend. And what a night it was. The first ever Springboard Opera Gala in fabulous Brisbane. And in the spirit of doing it differently, it was opera, but not opera. Some, but not all, of the Springboard Opera young (and talented) human beans were introduced to Brisbane in a fabulous star-studded night of music, theatre and general cool-ness. If you missed out, you’ll have to wait for the next Springboard Thing. And because no man is an island – thanks for the words, John Donne – we are not so much creating an arts organisation as a 21st century Arts Ecosystem that thrives on innovation. Ecosystems imply lots of interconnectedness. Between all the parts. Side-to-Side and Front-to-Back. So the innovation needs to flow Side-to-Side and Front-to-Back. And to make this work, all those parts matter equally. One of the things that was said at the Gala was “Singing optional”. That is because we need skills and INNOVATION everywhere. And with that – a bit of fractured Dr Suess, this time – Oh, the places We’ll go! If you are up for a bit of Amazeballs stuff… Come down and see us at https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg – it is going to be WILD! Nightlife Articles #40: Why Aren’t Clubs Recognised as ‘National Portfolio Organisations’ like Galleries, Museums and Theatres The time has come to question the outdated cultural hierarchy that places classical arts above contemporary ones. The contribution of clubs to our society is clear—they are hubs of creativity, diversity, and economic activity. Clubs or venues like Fabric, SubClub, Ministry of Sound, and Printworks deserve to be celebrated, protected, and funded in the same way that opera houses and theatres are. Let’s not wait until it’s too late to recognise their value. It’s time to give clubs the support they need to continue shaping the culture of tomorrow. https://buff.ly/3Uahfke

Springboard Opera, the coolest arts startup on the Brisbane scene, is ready to meet the world… An arts lunch at The Brisbane Club, Brisbane’s premier Business and Arts Club was our first foray into the world. At the Brisbane Club, the intersection of Arts and Business in the Rivercity. And as we all know, Brisvegas … the exploding arts heartland in Oz! It was really appropriate that the Brisbane Club was the venue. The guiding words for Springboard are Supporting emerging artists & Transforming the Opera Idea. Transforming the Opera Idea is about re-invention, innovation and all those other really cool C21 words that we talk about so much. And for Springboard, that means transforming the back end of the arts as much as the front end. And why would we try any other way? If we are serious about sustainability (which we are…) and credibility with all our stakeholders (ditto…), and properly supporting our amazing emerging Queensland Artists, well, the transformation needs to go right across the organisation. Or, in the case of Springboard, we have set ourselves up in the way we intend to continue. From the book-keeping to front-of-house, from the board to the volunteers at the workface, we are going to do it differently. There is not enough space here to tell the whole story. If you want to see us in action or get involved with something big, check out our events page. This is Springboard Opera … if you’re up for a 21st century adventure, up for creating something new, exciting and paradigm-busting to support young people, jump over to our website https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg, and get involved. Singing optional. Leslie Martin Luisa Tarnawski Gheorja Haidley #Future #TransformationalLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Directors #Technology #Performingarts #YourNetworkForLife

Addressing can seem simple, but it's often a minefield of incorrect assumptions. Myth 1: "Every Address Has a Building Number" This is the first assumption in our series and it's a common one: the belief that every address must start with, or include, a building number. 🚫 Not always the case! 🚫 Take the Royal Opera House in London as an example: Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9DD, United Kingdom 👉 No building number required If you've ever encountered unexpected addressing quirks like this, you're not alone. It's a great reminder that even something as familiar as an address can be more complex than it seems. Stay tuned for more myths and facts about addressing in the coming weeks! #addressing #UKaddresses #mythvsfact #facts #mythbusters #fridayfact

Transforming Classics into Modern Masterpieces No, I don’t want to fall in love 💔… Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” in an Italian 🇮🇹 classical remix 🔄 I’m excited to share my latest project where I blend the haunting melody of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” with the rich, emotive elements of classical Italian opera. This remix brings a fresh perspective to a beloved classic, showcasing the timeless beauty of both genres. For my fellow professionals: How do you incorporate classic elements into your modern projects to create something unique/impactful?

Imagine the human body as a grand Opera, each system and organ a musician playing a crucial role. Within this symphony, data emerges as the silent conductor, harmonizing diverse elements to create a masterpiece of excellence. Every beat, every neuron, every process is orchestrated by data’s silent power. Organizations must embrace data as their conductor, guiding strategic decisions, operational efficiency, and every note contributing to the grand composition of success. #the_mastery_within
