And this brings the Elevate Festival to an end! What an exciting 2-days of meeting new people, learning about the state of AI and digital transformation across society, and getting to see firsthand Canadian innovation at play. One of my favorite talks was “The Death of the Entry Level Job” by Jeremy Shaki, exploring how automation and rapidly changing skills requirements are changing the way employers recruit talent which will have an enormous impact 5 years from now. Early talent today become leaders tomorrow.

Alright, gather around, it's storytime! So, picture this: I’m in the middle of THE ANTIBODY SERIES deep in the trenches of discussions, science, and—let’s be honest—an endless stream of questions. I’m talking to Tariq Ghayur bombarding him with life’s big questions. You know, like *"Why are we here? What’s the point of it all?"* because, well, my curiosity knows no bounds! And what does he say? Something simple, yet profound: "Just be you, work hard, avoid the politics, and always speak up." Now, this hit me. It wasn’t some grand philosophical revelation, but it was exactly what I needed to hear. Be yourself, keep it real, and don’t get sucked into the noise. That was the key to this whole journey. And honestly, THE ANTIBODY SERIES became just that—my safe space to connect with others, ask a million questions (sorry not sorry), and dive into real, meaningful conversations. That’s where the magic happened. Not just in the science, but in the people—the amazing, open, and curious people who came together to share ideas and be honest. And let me tell you, the attendees? Absolute legends. You made every conversation so open, so truthful, it felt like we were all in this wild adventure together. No pretenses, no awkwardness—just real talk. And of course, a huge shoutout to my team! I’m so proud to be part of the BD FairJourney Biologics team, alongside the marketing team, the events team, the EA team, and my brilliant scientist colleagues. Working with such talented people made every step of this experience unforgettable. So, what’s the moral of the story? Stay curious. Stay real. And always ask the big questions, even if they seem a little wild. And now? On to the next adventure! Let’s see where the journey takes us.

I'm prepping a talk on Innovation Myths, especially debunking the 'eureka moment'—thinking one brilliant flash leads to instant success. Turns out, true innovation mirrors Mars Bar moments: a mix of work, rest, and play. Work: No idea worth pursuing ever came without effort. It's the countless hours of work, the endless tweaking, and the relentless pursuit of something better that sets the stage for true innovation. Rest: Ever noticed how stepping away from a problem somehow brings the solution into focus? That's rest doing its magic. It's in those moments of stepping back, maybe while eating a Mars Bar, that our minds sort through the chaos, connecting dots we didn't even see. Play: The joy of exploring, asking 'what if,' and not being afraid to fail. It's in play that creativity dances, leading us to ideas that seem to come from 'out of nowhere' – but are really the product of a mind allowed to roam free. So, next time you think about that mythical 'eureka moment,' remember it's not just about the lightning strike of inspiration. It's about the work you put in, the rest that gives your ideas room to breathe, and the play that makes innovation truly fun. Here's to embracing our Mars Bar moments - to working hard, resting well, and playing joyfully. 🚀🍫 (No Mars bars were received for the writing of this post. Yet). #InnovationJourney #WorkRestPlay #MicrosoftGarage #Microsoft #innovation

Combinatorial Creativity is a 3 stage progression, not a destination: 1. Gather: Absorb as many diverse ideas and inspirations as possible. 2. Connect: Experiment with unconventional pairings. 3. Refine: Test, iterate, and refine the combinations that resonate.
