Letting players know that this is for your benefit, it is not to trip you up or to be used as a weapon against you is one of the most powerful messages to get across. Coaching is all about nuance and eliminating problems before they happen. This approach of a presentation, introducing a new system and why is a quick and easy way to get player buy in. Find me a footballer who doesn't want to know how fast they can swing their leg when kicking a ball and I'll eat my hat. Piquing their curiosity will always come out on top. This has picked up a lot of views cross-platform...and rightly so! 👏 It's a truly authentic, organic clip at such a significant peak football moment (who doesn't love a late, late winner, eh!), and, for me, backs up the importance of in-house teams being embedded every day with the players and technical staff. Those close and personal relationships aren't forged over night and take years to naturally build, trust to develop and understandings between each other to form. Liverpool Football Club (kudos Mark Volante and team) are one of the best embedded teams around and moments like this, where VVD instinctively spots/engages with a colleague (yes, players and media teams are working colleagues!) within seconds in the middle of a 'moment', aren't a fluke - this is the result of LFC's content team showing up every day at training, travelling around the world with the team, being in the dressing room, and ultimately becoming known, respected and trusted. I think we are discussing formations in a different way. The other day we used 36 different formations in the game [against Fulham]. Against Manchester City 43. I don't know what formation we are talking about. For me it is something very maybe different from the way what you look like." - Mikel Arteta Arteta's quote points out that modern football is characterized by constant tactical adjustments and fluid positioning, making traditional static formations inadequate to describe a team's approach. "Dynamic space occupation" is a more accurate term as it captures the continuous movement, adaptability and strategic flexibility required in contemporary football. This perspective reflects the reality of how teams operate in different phases of the game, constantly changing their shape to respond to various situations and maximize their effectiveness on the field. Teams adapt their shape and positioning according to different phases of the game (defence, attack, transition). For example, a team may use a compact shape while defending (eg 4-4-2), an expansive shape while attacking (eg 3-2-5). During transitions, the team could adopt a 2-3-2-3 shape to quickly regain possession and counter-attack or reorganize defensively.
